mc21 sp purchase

Fri Mar 09, 2007 7:20 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Very Happy
Have bought this MC21 SP and havent seen it yet! I need some help, how can I determine if this is a REAL sp version and genuine? apart from dry clutch that is, is there a chass no check or something?
Have a look and advise me if youve got the time, anything else to look out for?

Make your own mind up look here http://www.dreamgate.ne.jp/nsr/general/92_rothmans_SP.jpg

Your wheels are the wrong colour the front indicators should be white and the Rothmans stickers on the nose cone are in the wrong place.
But yours still looks nice and if your happy with it than thats all that matters but get the wheels painted white please.

Anyway welcome to the site.

Also heres some history on the NSR's http://www.dreamgate.ne.jp/nsr/general/NSR250a.html

Lets see... they are listing it as a 94 SP.

At best its a 93, as the 94 was an MC28.

Rims are Magtek, can't tell about the suspension, or the dry clutch.

The color of the rims are too golf, and the paint on the body work isn't factory colors. So this was probably an SP of different colors, and was re-sprayed to Rothmans.

I wouldn't buy it based on it being a real Rothmans SP, but that doesn't mean it's not a decent bike.

Confused
Thanks for the replies so far.

Hmm, so, I presume the rebound adjusters should be easy to spot.. wonder, how can it be a advertised as a 94? Are the magtek rims stamped in any way? The bodyworks prolly pattern then too? shall check it out tomorrow methinks

cheers

Try and take someone with you that knows what they are looking at!

The Magteks are easy to spot... SE/SP suspension is easy to spot... OEM bodywork/paint is easy to spot... SE/SP motor is easy to spot... if you know what you are looking at!

£2895 is an awful lot of money for a non-original bike. It looks tidy from the pictures, but I would never pay that much for a non-original bike in the UK unless it was something seriously special - and that isn't special.

I'd love to see you buy it and add another UK NSR owner to the register, and for the value of NSR's to appreciate to this level, but I can't bring myself to advise you to go for this one as it is way over-valued in my opinion.

For £3k I would consider letting you have mine! Smile

For £3k I would source one for you and tweak it! Very Happy

Also there was a really nice and clean 21SP in Rothmans that sold on this site a few weeks ago for around £1800.

I went to see this bike with dov today and he left without it.

It was essentially a 28 frame 28 forks with 21 bodywork elecs and rear end.

I asked them at fastline why it was that way and their response was. "when it came in it had a knock at the back so they decided to put a 21 swingarm and wheel on it" I'm pretty sure they didnt have a manky gold mc21 magtek the same colour as the original 21 front mag just floating about. Wink

There where quite a few other things wrong with it too but I havent got all night. Wink

Just out of curiosity, did you guys try to haggle the price down to a realistic level? Although it's not as advertised, and well overpriced, it does look like a nice bike.

"A knock at the back" that warrants a new swingarm and wheel is something I wouldn't even give £1000 for personally.

Even though we are "only" playing around with 250's that on average will only hit around 120mph, that's still plenty fast enough to kill you if the frame's been damaged and lets go at some point!

I can sort of see the point of fitting an MC21 with a Pro-Arm if you want the look, but swapping a back end because of a shunt should be a no-no in my book.

Dealer wouldn't budge although I did suggest a lower price would make the deal acceptable. I also drove 400mile round trip to view Crying or Very sad

Just keep looking.

If you've got £3k and are after a '21 then all you need is some patience and you'll end up with an absolute minter.
