Another Coolant Leak

Mon Mar 19, 2007 2:05 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Guys

Yeah i'm back with another coolant leak. I'm having a bit of trouble with the bottom coolant hose connection on the rear/top cylinder. I've had a look at the lug(?) that connects the cylinder to the hose, and it seems to be a slightly deformed oval shaped from my (ex) mechanic removing it with pliers (there are teeth marks on it). It's not leaking quickly, about 100ml per track session, but enough to get me worried about it. And i'm not sure other track users would appreciate me leaving water on the place.

So, a couple of things:

Is is possible that it being slightly out of shape (not much, but you can tell by looking at it) that it's not sealing properly to the cylinder and starts leaking once pressurised?

I've got a good one in a ruined (badly pitted) cylinder head, are they the same and what is the best way to remove it with doing similar damage to it?

And, on a bit of a side note, how on earth do you re-attach the hose properly, the damn oil pump is in the way. I got it on last time, but it took an hour a fair amount of blood and sweat

As always thanks a heap in advance for any help, without this site i'm not sure i would have had the knowledge/patience to keep this bike!

in case my description makes no sense, it's the one on the back of the cylinder in the below diagram (red arrow)

ME? id buy another hose, if its for the front head i may still have one but it would be a bit of time on the postage stakes, id give Tyga or your local honda a call and get a new one, its not worth it, that coolant may get worse and may end up on your back tyre.... as for getting it on there is 2 ways i did it, (countless times into the gearbox etc) use VERY VERY hot water and let it soak for a bit, this will make it far more plyable and will slide on... the other i used as a quick fix and wouldnt really recomend it but dose work, spray a litlle wd40 or even a drop of oil onto your finger and line the outside of the flange so the pipe slides on easy, hope its been of some help!! Could you improve it's shape with another squeeze of the grips?

I have no idea how to get them out undamaged, never managed it!

Heating the cylinder would be my best guess...
