whilst i am rebuilding this box of bits MC16 is it worth replacing some of the ignition/carbs/exhausts/etc with later model parts to give more power/reliability? i don't want a supertunned racebike that only makes power above 13,000 rpm but if there are upgrades that will give more power without mucking anything up then please do tell.
I only ask cos Andy mentoined that MC21 carbs are a good upgrade and there are some for sale in the classified.
what is a reasonable price to pay??
The MC21 carbs will probably be the best place to start! You will however, need the MC21 inlet manifold/boost bottle too.
The dinky 28mm MC16 carbs aren't worth their weight, so the larger MC21 juicers are a natural upgrade.
I think the MC18 Mk1 (R2J/R4J) flywheel is a goer (don't quote me on it though!), and will give a few more degrees of advance to the ignition if that's the case.
See if you can get an old set of MC18 race pipes and then modify them to fit the '16 chassis - it's what I'd do. Well, it's nearly what I'd do, but I won't drop Jeff350LC in it again like last time... oops!
Biggest benefit to the MC16 will be in the chassis department though. A set of later forks from an MC18SP or MC21/28 SE/SP will do the trick up front (complete with wheel and brakes, of course) and then a tweak on the rear end... maybe just a rebuilt/resprung shock if the funds don't allow.
are standard mc18 forks any better than the standard 16,s. will they fit the 16 yolks? and will an 18 back wheel fit a 16 swinging arm? if i can find some parts i may have to get the spanners out

Find out... in the next episode of Soap!
Sorry! I've used that one before, but sometimes I just can't help myself!! :D
It's not the diesels that screw that site up, it's the wierd owner...
Any of you see the bashing TYGA got? A very strange way to carry on! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Sorry! My fault for dragging this thread off on a tangeant!!
So... aren't MC21 carbs/intakes/boost bottle, MC18 flywheel (maybe!), race pipes, and complete SE/SP suspension setup enough to be getting on with? Or have you done that already?
carbs on order, looking for inlet bits, not too sure about race pipes at the moment (although i could get a set made at work if i knew the dimensions ) not going to bother with the chassis bits yet, unless stuff turns up at stupidly cheap prices as the standard stuff will be fine for me.
