In the normal dry, quite warm weather my '28 temp is fine, mid 60's or so.
It rises a bit on a summer t/d, maybe up into the 70's but as there are HRC rads available I presume this is a "known issue".
But yesterday in the fairly cold and very wet Mallory with the radiator not taped up at all it only got to around 38*.
Even with the rad 1/2 taped up it would barely get into the 50's.
So what's considered the ideal temp and is my thermostat shot? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
I would think if your thermostat was shot it would get hot rather than stay cool.
Personaly I think around 62deg is about right. Ive never had mine run that cold though but often have to use 2 strips of tape to bring it just into the 60's in winter.
It would seem though that Honda did have trouble keeping the NSR's cool though as, like you say they made the HRC rads as well as the HRC water pumps. To prove a point, the amount of heat that came off Matts 300 in Thailand would shame a VFR! _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
When I'm on the move, the 300 rarely gets above 65, and sticks around 60 of an evening. But as Steve says, Thanks to the huge rad it's really shifting some heat.
I'm not running a thermostat. The only problem here is that it takes a little while longer to warm up, so it means I have to annoy the neighbours as I'm blipping it up to temp. I never ride it away from cold (less than about 50 deg)

But have you ever ridden it round and round in circles in the freezing cold hammering rain without having a v-piece on (i.e. not only does the cold water hit the rad it also soaks the front cylinder)? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
lol I've ridden my '18 to work in the snow, slush and rain with an '18 V peice (more holes than plastic) down the A38.. so yeah, pretty cold and wet. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
