i've bought the mc16 on ebay (hastings) as something cheap to strip and trick to pass the winter hours away. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, i picked up a very nice and genuine little beauty which i cannot come to cannibalise or part with. Apart from a missing rear hugger, exhaust gaskets and some original fairing bolts (currently i have to use my hole tool box to get the fairing off) it all looks very good and runs very well apart from what i'm hoping is just a little oil fouling round the plug from too much oil.
having ridden modern 4stroke road bikes for years i was pleasantly suprised with the power of this little thing and how light and solid it felt, not to mention lack of engine breaking and gliding into corners, nice. but the best thing for me, other than it being and red honda for £40.00 quid a year insurance, having upset the neighbours with my 4stroke enduro bike, was how quiet it is...no problems with noise regs now.
anyway my questions are:
can you get trick parts for this model like you can the mc18 onwards, i'm not really bothered about absolute power as i didn't buy it for that. Just parts i like to caress now and again? YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! I think i'll go to the shed to have another look at it.
what about sticky tyre choice and rear sizes (should i fit a 17 rear wheel from a mc18 assuming they run 17s)?
how can i sift through the database just to locate articles on MC16s? man they should have called this site mc21world+miscellaneous.com
lastly (for now anyway) i've seen a cheap MC18 which i'm interested in(as you do) and wanted to know if i'm really going to get any addition pleasure from owning one of them.

In brief, answer to your questions:

No, not really, but some parts from the MC18's can be adapted to fit if you have a little mechanical aptitude.

17" wheel was MC21~. The MC18's use an 18" wheel. You will need an R2J/R4J swingarm and wheel ideally, as that pretty much slots right in and gives you a wider wheel. There's still decent sticky 18" rubbber available as the NC30 guys use it.

sad isn't it, but i've got the bike and this light comes on and i don't know what it means. the last time i rode a two stroke road bike was my mates TZR250 and i don't remember seeing it on that. i had a kmx and a wr200 and they didn't have one. i hope it's not terminal. my guess was it was to inform me that the rc valve is open and floor it, but my mate thought it was a signal given before the engine is about to blow up. Well, which ever way, i've bought a spare engine to rebuild, mildly tune and polish as a bit of fun, so maybe i'll need it sooner than i think (in for a penny...)
Thanks again for the sound advice and i hear what you are saying. Concors it is then, i'll keep the 18" and now at least i can source the free ads for nc30 tyres. with a little bit of luck, i could be upsetting my lady by adding another bike where i can't afford it and where there is no space.
the speed light only comes on at 80kph/ 50mph, this I believe is the japanese speed limit, though I could be talking tosh . being a law abiding nation, the honest '16 rider would see the light, literally, and slow down!!. _________________ it's a name, not a condition
mine comes on at 80mph lol as i fitted a speedo converter thing, i thaught it was part of a game to see how quickly you can make it come on after the starting the bike lol.
ive ridden a mc16, mc18 and a 21 all standard and i think i'll stick to the mc16 has a bit more character and felt quicker altho felt not as quick to accelerating to 60 .

thanks again for all the feedback, but i'm affraid i'm more convinced that it is an adrenalin rush imminent and will now keep it lit. i wouldn't mind setting it to let me know when i've slowed down to 30mph in build up areas.

since i'm here i might as well ask another couple of basic questions? i know they are basic but with this old thing the last thing i want to do is seize it on the basics.
could i have some recommendations on:
What is a PM i.e. is it a perverts mack?
anti-freeze/coolant type and mix?
tyre pressures for road use (only dry use, yes i do respect the old thing)? dare i request track day pressures or would i be laugh of this site.
two stroke oil?
gear box oil and level ckecking?
and i've see conflicting warm up procedures. is this a necessity or not. i normally choke all my bikes for less that 15 seconds and let them stand running for less that 5mins before gently going out until it warms quarter way up the temp gauge, then open it up from then on.
