NSR powervalve servos, repairable?!

Wed Feb 04, 2004 12:04 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey guys. I did a bit of tinkering on a few blown powervalve servos I came across. Evidently, the common problem with these is the cheap motors used in them. They are a ~12v DC (cheaply made) brushed motor, and the armatures are known to melt and the brushes fall apart.

GREAT NEWS!!

I found a few motors from an outlet in Cali that may work (thanks to the recent popularity in robotics). The dimensions are perfect, the motor has bearings (instead of cheap brushes), and it is Swiss made high quality. I have ordered a few and will be testing one on my own bike to see how well she works. And the cost is WAY cheaper than a new servo from Honda ($170!).

If it works out, I will be able to rebuild your old servo assemblies for a fraction of the cost of new. Let me know if any of you are interested.

Remy,
the motors I ordered werent a direct fit. Since this was posted, I transplanted my life from Tokyo to Washington State and havent had the time to tinker with it yet. It is on my Loooooong list of things to do.

I just did a search for motors on Ebay and found a ton of them real cheap. I figure if I can just find one that slips right in it would be worth the hassle of looking. Heck, someone could start an NSR servo rebuild business! I was just hoping to help out our aging bikes, not looking to make alot of money at it.
