Does anyone know if (or has tried) a '05 inverted 600RR front end on a MC21? I see some deals on fleabay but wanted some opinions/experience. If it's a true bolt-on affair then I might consider it.
That's probably true since the triples have to transfer as well but I got spoiled with "bolt-ons" with my Hawk GT so I was hoping I could experience some of that with the NSR as well.
I don't mind swapping races as long as there's no need to machine new spacers or do any welding...
Jay is it? Do you still have your Hawk? I just bought two of them since I was waxing nostalgic. You used to live in Hawaii right? I had two Hawks back in the early/mid 90s.
Anywho, I have a 05 600RR FE that I am putting on one of them. I have a NXA FE on my MC28. To get that to fit the MC28 I know Charles G. had a custom machined stem pressed into the NXA lower triple. When I get home or when I have a chance in the next couple days, I'll measure the dimensions of the MC28 bearings and the Hawk bearings and see if they're the same. After that you just gotta make sure that the steering stem length and fork length are the same. Although fork length is not as critical.
Holy small words Batman! Hey Jupiter! Yeah dude, I grew up in Hawaii. In fact, I was the one who bought your old Muzzy slip on for my first Hawk back in the day... I'm now on my 4th Hawk (keeper) after selling my first 3. I also picked up a MC21 for the track along with a street RZ350. If I pick up this '05 600RR FE, it's either going on the MC21 or the Hawk. Whatever is easier to install. I appreciate any measurements you can throw at me!
Hey, so since HRP closed down, where the hell do you ride your MC28? I recently sold my Honda RS250 and kind of wish I kept it now. I'm assuming you still keep in touch with Marc Danao?
Done correctly, ie, to keep the geometry of the mc21/28 the same, there is no way that you can simply swap the front ends over and find suitable bearings or at the least do a stem swap... If you don't care about your rake/trail and fork offset, then yeah, it's a piece of piss!
For reference, fork length from top yoke face to wheel spindle centre is 710mm, fork offset is 35mm. This will give you the 'standard' quoted rake and trail of 23 degress and 87mm respectively, although accurately measured it's slightly different, as it's also dependent on tyres and rear shock. Best thing to do is measure the 05 RR yokes, the forks will be way longer than the NSR's so that's not a problem. _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
Yea that slip on was from my 2nd Hawk, my race Hawk. I'm on my 3rd and 4th Hawk too! I am going all out on this one and never plan on selling it, just like my MC28. You can check out my Hawk project at http://rc31.blogspot.com/.
I should create a site for my MC28 too. I'll do it when I have time. I seen you around on the Hawk forums (Speedzilla, etc.) I was always wondering if that was the same Jae I knew. Now I know! You had the yellow Hawk back in the day? Or was it the blue one? And Marc had the yellow? I haven't kept in touch with Marc...
My MC28 is my street bike. I did get back into racing mid 05 and bought a 03 ZX6RR, new leathers etc. And then the track closed at the beginning of 06. I still have my race bike but my friend is planning on buying it from me. My other friend is buying my 88 Hawk so I'm gonna just have 2 street bikes (MC28 and RC31). I wish we had a track though. I really miss racing and don't really care to ride on the street. I will be going to Infineon in late Sept. to do the 4hr endurance race and sprint races.
To keep this thread on topic...It will be way easier to put the 600RR FE on the Hawk as the bearings are the same, it truely is a bolt on affair. Like maxim said, geometry is a concern when doing swaps. I would be more concerned about geometry on a track/race bike than on a street bike.
Cool! As for the MC21/600RR FE, I may just pass but will consider it for the Hawk. I really don't want to screw up the geometry on that easy-to-flick bike... Hey, shoot me your e-mail addy, cuz I'm flying back for a visit in Aug. pekingduc1@gmail.com
