RS250 Race Fairing

Thu Jun 28, 2007 9:39 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have a 1993 RS250 single sided swing arm model which needs a new fairing and was wondering if i could fit a later fairing, maybe 2004 as it looks real nice. Has anyone fitted this bodywork to their RS?

The front/lower shouldn't be that much a problem to get hooked up. However the seat will need either a little work, or a seat in the newer style made to fit your frame (they do make them, just not sure who).

The front mounting points on the seat unit are much lower on your year then the newer model.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the 2004 stuff would fit the NX5. I've fitted one to my '92 RS250 (NF5) and this is what I found.

Front fairing: You will need to replace the top fairing mounts with TZ250 items. The std RS items are to short. You will also need to fabricate something to extend the front fairing stay (clock mount) as the nose is longer than the NX5 model. A couple of people here in the UK supply this stuff, check out www.iane.co.uk

Seat unit: The principle difference is the seat unit mounts to the sub frame vertically, rather than horizontally. Check out the image and see what I mean http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/images/10RS2503~1.JPG. I've found, or rather WayneNSR found that we also need a third bolt to the sub frame just in front of the tank. I just fabricated a few brackets from ali to do this.....not a pretty job, but then one can see it.

Good luck!

Tom's NF5 with RSW bodywork...

Not exactly "like a glove", but there's still plenty of scope for a tighter fit.

The arse of the rear fairing drags a little....bit like the owner! It was grounding out at the bottom of Paddock Hill bend but that might have been the 12stone rider onboard.

I'm going to fit a bracket to lift the back up a bit. I've noticed that Danni Pedrosa's bike had this bracket, but Speedfibre (who make this fairing) didn't see fit to including here. A bit strange since I've been informed that Speedfibre are the guys who make HRC's RSW fairings. Pehaps it was a modification on the updated '05 RSW bodywork. http://www.iane.co.uk/Flash/honda%20RSW%20250%2005.html
Just noticed that you can buy a tank extender to fit either Pedrosa's, Hiro's or Lorenzo's bike....??

There's a good 1~1.5" of clearance between the expansion chamber and the belly pan on yours Tom. The whole fairing could be raised slightly, and that alone would give heaps more ground clearance.

Obviously you would need to check clearance on full lock then, as there is already a little interference on one side, but I suspect that may be down the strange clip-on you have on that side!! Smile

It's not bad though, for a fairing designed for a bike 15 years younger!!

here another 92nd NF-5 with RSW seat and 2002 A-Kit fairing. I think the fairing was the same like the RSW?
With a little work at the mounting points you will get every fairing on your bike if you have the standard Gastank on it. If you have a later Tank with the Airtubes on it you will found a fairing with the air intakes...

and the same bike last year with the 2002 front + seat:

Sweet looking bike Christian, is that a carbon front fairing I see??? Or just a bit of clever paint work on the front number board?

no,
its not carbon, just a paintjob..

At the moment the bike became a banana swingarm, like the HB team rs from 90-91....

The upper from the Single sided swingarm bikes, 1993 - 2000, has ram air tubes that go to the tank. The later models do not and use the side for the ram air. Definitely won't be easy at all.

The RSW fairing should work OK on the '93 model as that one didn't have the ram air. I think it wasn't introduce until '95???
