Hi Is there a general rule of thumb for increasing the main jet size after drilling a couple of holes in the top of the standard air box ? The MC18 is standard with the restrictor wire unplugged . Can I just go up one jet size ? I know getting it on a dyno is the way to go or should i just gaffer tape over the holes and leave it alone ? I want to do the Brands track day so I don't want it nipping up going in to padock hill . Thank you.
If you're going to Brands, it's the perfect place to test it!
Run it with the airbox holes taped over and the RC Valve "restriction" connected (i.e. stock), and plug chop it.
Then pull the black/blue wire, see how it feels, and chop it.
Then un-tape one hole, and chop it, and also see how it feels/revs. Do the same with two holes in the lid.
It's not going to hurt if you are a size or two rich, it'll most likely just not rev as free as it could. When it really starts to go "WAAAAAHHH!" at the top, it's starting to get lean!!
You ought to pull the tank each time you chop it and check both plugs, don't rely on just the bottom plug to give you a reading. Running the power jets will mean you will most likely end up with the same mains in each side, as there is quite a difference in the stock R2/4J power jets left-to-right.
As far as jet sizes go... you haven't got a snowball in hell's chance of getting numbers out of me! _________________ Andy.

If it was possible I would rejet every lap for the chaging condtions but even at Llandow they didnt like me doing all my plug chops.... _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Thank you Andy for your advice . But after reading posts and the tuning bit for the last few hours ,I think I'll buy some Swarbrick end cans ,leave the holes and get the bike Dynoed. I have a set of new rings with a great set of std barrels and pistons to go on ,Should I swap them over now ,run it in with the holes coverd and the wires connected , then get it Dynoed ? Thanks again
Sorry ,I wasn't clear. What I,'m thinking of doing is to swap pistons and barrels with new rings today, run it in with the holes coverd ,Then put a pair of Swarbrick cans & open the holes at the dyno. Then go to Brands
One more question ,how is it best to run a set if rings in ?
Sorry about these questions but I realy don't want to sieze the thing again.
Many thanks
