Just get the thing out of there...! He clearly doesn't haven't a clue and I wouldn't be surprised if your engine exploded like a small anti-vehicle mine within a few milles of being put back together. Who knows what else he's bodged together without the right components? _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
You need to measure the O rings, if they are deformed then you need to get a new pair. And no it wont take two weeks to get them. Honda have stock, should be next day. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
I'm [retty sure you need that. It fits on the top of the gear box behind the clutch basket. its either for the kick starter or waterpump I think. Yes, it uses two o-rings. _________________ james

Damn funny place for a water pump _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Isn't the oil pump driven off the waterpump? _________________ james

The 2t pump isnt driven off the gear box oil pump though
There are two oil pumps on an NSR you know. The one hes asking about is the gear box pump. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Come on chaps, let's answer the question. Steve was the closest.
If in doubt, fit new. easy to get as it's not a special part.
This assembly is the transmission oil pump. It is driven off the primary gear on the clutch assy. It sucks up filtered oil from the bottom of the tranny and feeds it to the inside of the gear shafts.
If you're feeling daring you can remove it and run splash lubrication like the RS. You might gain a tenth of a hp, but it won't be long before you're looking to buy new gear parts that have worn out
I had no idea there was a transmission oil pump. I was thinking injection oil pump. I guess you learn something new every day. My mistake. _________________ james

To be honest, i'm thinking exactly this. I'm going to pop around tomorrow & tell him to stop the work.

Unfortunately it's just been once of those things. I bought the bike without my finance knowing as we were saving for our wedding & dropped it off at this guy the same day i'd bought it. I wasn't in a rush for it due to the wedding. Unfortunately this guy must have took 'not in a rush' as 'take the piss'. I wanted the bike for the beginning of the good weather this year & i've been chasing him ever since.
I will be going to see him today, hopefully be able to get the bike back to my dads (lives in Bath) shortly. So if you are able to take a look at it at some point in the near future Andy that would be fantastic.
I've just sent an email telling him to stop working on it & get everything together for me to collect.
I've also told him that i don't think that I should pay any of the work done on the engine as i'll need to pay somebody else to check all the work carried out so far & finish the job.
Is that reasonable?
All he's done really is fit discs, new front pads, new front tyre & some fork seals. The repair work to the rear barrel & new piston kit etc was paid for in advance. _________________

Only wanted it for yesterday then?!
Now the weather is good, I want to be down the beach rather than working on bikes... in fact, I think I'm off down there now!! _________________ Andy.

I'd just like to ride before all the dry warmish days are gone
Typical of my luck, it even pissed it down when i did the Ron Haslam day last month....booking it in January i assumed that the end of July would've been a scorcher _________________
