MC21 Flywheel with MC18 Elec +PGM, How's it affect things?

Thu Sep 06, 2007 1:05 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Thanx for the assistance, It seems a set of 128MJ's and actually routing the air-solenoid pipe's has solved the most of my problem's. Especially thank you for the tip on the clear 3-way.

If I do have the 21's fly-wheel and all the other electric's are 18, how would this affect the system? I have the stock airbox in place and the reeds are old but seem pretty decent.

Would removing the airbox, (It is a track toy), affect the bottom-end significantly? I'm pretty adventurous and if it goes BOOM, I have an excuse to rebuild it anyway. What would you start with as a base for mains & other settings with a stock bike with only the airbox removed, bell-mouths in place with stock tied over. Environment would be sea-level and average temp of 25 Deg Celcius.

Finally, sorry for all the questions, would a 15wt Oil be overkill for an 85 kilo framed Lard-arse. The springs are stock and no one in South Africa has a replacement for me. I was contemplating machining a pre-load spacer but don't know if it would be worth the 20min of my life to turn them.

Many, many Thanx
Garth

Garth

I had the exact same situation on my MC21 it had MC18 electrics. The reason previous owner replace them because they could not find a replacement PGMIII, so they had to replace the sh*t out other bike, loom, PGMII, alternator, Flywheel. e.t.c to fit a PGMII
in order to connect the PGMIII loom with the MC18 alternator/pickups i had to fabricate an extension on cables because they are too short

I now almost back to stock except the flywheel/pickups/alternator which i still looking for. Now for the effects. I believe that the advance is deferent on MC18 flywheel less advance, One of some problems affecting hard starting as timing is deferent.

Any other effects on power i dont know since is my first MC21 ever.

I used 12.5W (by mixing 10W and 15W 50:50) in my MC21SE forks, and it was perfect for me. I am 90~92kg, depending on what I've had for tea and if I've had a crap! Laughing

Removing the airbox will dramatically effect jetting. Don't even begin to ask me what jets I'd recommend though. Wink There's no reason why, with careful jetting, the bottom-end and mid-range should suffer too much. My 21 is very strong and smooth with just pod filters, and StephenRC45's MC18 was too, but that's gone back to fairly standard now.

I would definitely recommend fitting the correct flywheel for the PGM.

I have removed the airbox, will be starting with a 140MJ and just the bell-mouths & some ladies hose as a semi-filter over it. I know it's not entirely clever but "he who ventures not into the dark...".

I have the Air-hoses all in place and will not be touching anything else for now.

I am trying to get a complete PGM-III module & Loom but not much luck in South Africa there. Any chance I might get one from anyone here? Please allow for an exchange rate that is laughable (To you, we just cry about it all the time) when you think in terms of cheap.

Thanx again to everyone who makes this forum possible.
I have been in touch with KilahMC18 & will be trying to help him with his plug-mutilating top cylinder soon.

Cheers
Garth

I have a PGM-III and an HRC harness, but it's going to be about ZAR2200 + shipping.

Fri Sep 14, 2007 2:45 pm » Post: #6 » Download Post

Hi Andy

Monies are a bit tight currently for the items. Will be holding my breath for next pay-day you still have these items.

Do you still have them now?

Am having the shock rebuilt over the next week and resprung to suit. front end nicely sorted with a bit of fettling, not so the rear though.

You guys run a great site. Is there a reason I cannot get access to the Member's section?

Have a super weekend!

Yes... I've not finished writing it yet! Laughing

How much would just the PGM-III be on it's own, Andy? Have found a donor wreck with perfect loom & lots of other parts. Very Happy

My bike does not seem to have the GPS plug out of the box though Confused , only found the Green with Red Trace spliced into the MC18 loom. Where should the plug go into the box & do you know where I may find this section of wiring, too? Embarassed

Know anyone looking for fully operational MC18 PGM CDI? R2J, is it? What would a fair price for it be? Question

Thanx Again!
