I am upgrading from an R rear shock to an SP rear shock

is there any significant improvement on performance? and most importantly height over R shock?

The performance of the shock defiantly will be better... Especially in track conditions...You will be able to tune your bike in any track situation and that way you will be able to get the best of your NSR...Rebound damping is a very BIG, BIG deal...So go for it...Just check that it is in good working order and then just put it on...!!!

If the stock shock is so good then why did HRC see fit to make a special one?

The HRC shock as a bit like Business class on a plane. Once you've been there, there's no way you'd ever want to sit in cattle class again!

Standard suspension is OK for most conditions, but anyone who's ridden with an HRC shock (or similar aftermarket) can surely vouch that there's no comparison.

Having said all that, the SP shock will definitely improve your setup possibilities over the R shock.

Looking forward to install the Sp shock, one point that i am interested is the height deference, Would that be the same with R shock? Currently my mc21 sits a bit low so it might be that the current shock is dead? Hope installing the sp shock will rise the rear a bit

After some reading on this site, I decided to buy a CBR F3 shock to replace my "R" shock. I just got it in the mail so I won't be able to get to installing for a little while but it was pretty cheap and I hear it bolts right in...

what i am worried about is that nsr weights more less than cbr, therefore you might sit on the rock.....

i managed to get an ohlins at a good price and it feels way better than the SP shock i had before, even to my untrained buttocks! And making adjustments on it actually makes a noticeable difference too which I'd not experienced before.

Didn't Penske make one for the 21 too? And I hear Fox are going to bring out some new road shocks too soon and made to order stuff...

NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...

I bet many of you saw this too but there was an Ohlins MC21/28 shock on sale on fleabay about a week ago that sold for something in the $300 range I think. I thought about really going for it and decided to spend my money elsewhere...

I used to race in "ss400" class with an MC21 in the Greek Championship and I was using the Ohlins rear shock...Way better from everything else... The possibilities of the shock tremendous... I spent many, many hours to set up the bike correctly...I remember that I used to have the less power from all the competitors (it supposed that my class was a stock class but everyone were cheating) but I managed to finished 2nd in 1998... My opinion... I prefer to have the best set up in my suspensions and brakes than having power that I am not capable to manage...
I think Ohlins is the best choise but not the only one for a good set up...

Aside from the Ohlins and SP setups, are there any other manufacturers that are right in between these two shocks relative to price and performance? I too would like to upgrade my R shock w/no adjustments.

Any info with model #'s for Ohlins and ? would be greatly appreciated!
