Noob with probs

Wed Jan 09, 2008 5:31 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

To start off hi all im phil from cumbria, uk, i bought my first nsr a few month back it was owned by a chap on here (philandhisjag) think thats right, anyway down to the bike, ul have to bare with me as i dont no alot about these,

Right, its had a seizure lol, new this when i bought it, am i right in thinking replacment parts ie pistons, cylinders ect are as rare as hens teeth?
The next thing i seen a company on ebay advertising rebuilds for nsr,s so i asked and the said roughly £230 to replate the cylinders and supply pistons does this sound about right?
And the final thing ive got it part stripped (bottom barrel off) and the conrod has a little bit of play where it attaches to the crank, is this gonna cause a prob if left?

Oh and before i forget its an ns250 mc11 on a B plate

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil
Good luck with the rebuild. You wouldn't believe how sorry I was to see it go......... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I never really had problems getting parts for it, I think the pistons and rods are common to the NS400, along with a number of other cycle parts.

There are an number of guys on the NS400 forum that know where to get bits and have some technical info, try www.NS400r.co.uk (I think that's it)

I'm stuck with a bore-stroke VFR750F now. Compared to the NS it feels like a bus - far too heavy.
Looking for another NSR but I'm a bit skint right now....

All the best Smile Smile Smile

Also, when I lived down there (dark days...), I always had no problems getting parts from Nightingales in Rugby. Their number is 01788 573257.

They had all the parts info for the MC11 on microfiche and always managed to get bits (albeit genuine Honda - kerching!), although I never had cause to get pistons and rings....

When you get it running, don't rely on the low oil light - the sensor is bust (I tested it after the seizure) - that's how I managed to sieze the motor.

Hope this info helps

The ns250 MC11 pistons are not the same as the ns400 ones (that are not available anymore anyway). Although the stroke on the crank is the same 400/3 does not equall 250/2.
The con rods are also different.
There are a couple of choices of other pistons you could use and for the money you are going to have to spend, some much more interesting (=more powerfull) options available. PM me for details.

The ones for the SA model of the NS400R are close though...

In any case, the NS400 is not 400cc. It is 387cc or 373cc for the SA model.

It is just a case of Honda rounding up the numbers.....

373/3 is the same as 249/2..............

I know this doesn't mean the pistons are exactly the same but they must be at least similar given how closely related both models are.

MC11 pistons must be available from somewhere...

Just trying to help with what little info I know

All the best

You can do an awful lot worse than PM elegy for some ideas! He has a fantastic Aprilia RS500 (RS chassis, NS motor with 500cc conversion), and knows a lot about the NS motor, and how to best tune it.

Sounds like the best person to ask then......

Aprilia RS with 500cc NS400 motor.... sounds very nice........ Shocked

Especially compared to the bore-stroke I'm stuck with now - it really is too heavy for any serious fun. Sad

Still dreaming of strokers.......
