MC21 key number

Anyone know where the key number is on a 21. And even if I can find it without wrecking anything can a key be cut from a number?

Can you not take the ignition barrel off and take it to a locksmith?

One bolt is a T8 Torx I think, and the other is a security "sheer" bolt that needs to be tapped out with with a punch (same way the heathens tap off swingarm lock-rings!). The sheer bolt won't be too tight though.

Rolling Eyes Laughing

If I do take the barell to a locksmith how is he or she (PC and all that) going to be able to cut a key for it unless I stumble across the keymaker from the Matrix. Laughing

A good locksmith is The Keymaker... The Keymaker is all locksmiths! Very Happy

Do you think The Matrix is just a movie? Laughing

A good smith will be able to make a key from the barrel... whether he wants to, or thinks it is economically viable, is a different matter though.

I once lost my only key for a bike. After several calls I found a couple of locksmiths that claimed they would be able to make a new one from the ignition. I was quoted 75 if I brought it to them and 125 if they came out. So, I took it out and as I made my way to lock the door before I left.........There's the damn key hiding in the grass !!!!

Kinda pricey, but if you need it........

Was 75 US dollars...... Like I said, it's pricey, but if in need....... Only choice. Point is, keys can be made by a locksmith from the ignition.

How much would it cost to get one cut from the barrel. Taking into cosideration that either the barrel or key where pretty worn in the 1st place.

It may be cheaper and easier to find another lockset.

I'd try an get a key cut Mick. Trying to get into the tank to replace the filler cap is a right swine. I've had to do it twice and both times I've managed to bleed all over the thing.

Getting the ign barrel off is easy, just take the yoke off. That is unless you've locked the steering and then lost the keys. I've done that too!

On the spare barrel I got with an old bike, (with no key also). There`s a number stamped on the face where the steering lock bolt pokes out.

M & P do replacement ignition barrels too. You`d have to find a model which shares the same barrel as the NSR. Should be about £35 for one from M & P.

I`ve had a locksmith cut me a key from a lock barrel before. They just need to know which is the correct blank for the lock. Depends on who you go to. Some will attempt it, others won`t.

I just leave the key in mine all the time! Embarassed Wouldn't be surprised if it was seized in the lock by now! Laughing

A good locksmith probably knows more than they're gonna let on.

I've taken an ignition barrel, tank filler and set lock (all different) to the key man, and an hour later picked up the "one for all and all for one" key. Job done.
