Call me a girl but I'm getting a bit nervous. The weathers great, the same is forecast for tomorrow so I'm gonna take my MC28 out for a short blast to see how it feels. In fact it'll be the first time I've actually taken him anywhere after buying him during the winter. Thing is...I've slapped on a set of jolly moto chambers and cans...
What are the chances of me melting it or blowing a piston ? Or to put it another way, what's the best way to avoid it ?
Right then, presuming you're not up for plug chopping it and rejetting yourself DO NOT run it flat out especially in 5th or 6th gear. What you need to do is get someone who knows what they're doing to sort the jetting, I know it's a long way away (he's not close to me either) but StephenRC45 is the sole dyno operator in the UK I'd let set up either of my bikes.
If you haven't cut a couple of holes in the airbox lid my gut feeling is that it'll be OK anyway as the airbox is a major restriction, it's quite likely the race chambers scavenge bettter and it'll actually need to go down a size or three but my gut feeling has been wrong on several occasions and I have the destroyed barrels to show for it.
Can you make the 8th March in Plymouth? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
If you're after a gentle bimble to restore the dream, then have one, but as Fontyyy says, don't give it the berrries or you risk heartache and wallet woes.
If you have any idea what a plug chop is, then do one and take it from there. _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Cheers fellas !
DO NOT GIVE IT THE BERRIES IN 5TH AND 6TH !!! That's how I'm gonna play it today and see what happens. Can't bloomin' wait !!!
Two stroke dyno man is next on the list. There's one not too far away from me who I'll be trying. He's a guru in the scooter world including racing but wasn't phased at all when I mentioned jetting the NSR. They've been around as long as I've been catching a bus into Leeds ! (That's a long long time...)
Bike is completely standard engine wise apart the exhaust. No holes in the airbox etc. If I'm feeling adventurous I'll mabe sneak in a cheeky plug chop too !
Thanks for the advice...I'll let you know what happens...Heheheheheeeeeee.
I'm back ! What a laugh !!! I have never had so much fun on a road bike...ever !
If anything I think it's running a little rich...is that weird after throwing on race pipes ? I thought it would be the opposite ? Anyhows, a trip to the dyno I reckon to get him sorted for the spring.
I'm sure the novelty will wear off but the interest in the MC28 was mental ! Pulling into my local bikers cafe it was heaving today !!! People just stared at the bike as I looked for a parking space. I was mobbed as soon as I got off. Went for a coffee, came back and the bike was still surrounded by punters ! Finished my coffee at a safe distance took a deep breath and went to leave...took me choofing 15mins to actually get on the bike ! Then another 10 to set off ! It was like Sean of the Dead !!! HAhaahahaaaa...
Come on OilyNSR ! Get yours sorted pronto, I need some support down there this summer !
Sounds like it went well Dave will be there soon I hope few probs with forks at the moment wish mine had been one piece sounds like a good day at the cafe
Yeah, just before, like about 2 minutes before as that is likely to both increase power and require a jetting change.
Dave Ett has a cracking story about the folly of running an NSR with std jetting on Tyga racepipes and a modded airbox lid.
It's not a long story and it wasn't a long ride. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Ended with two skid marks. One on the road... _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Crikey ! Let me sleep on that one...
What I'll probably do is check the jetting as it stands. Ride it through the summer then maybe have another tinker as next winters project. Of course that may all change after it's done it's 1st track day !
