Brembo caliper advantages?

Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:25 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

What are the advantages (if any) of using the Brembo calipers (like off aprilia RS250 or ducati) on a racebike?

None! The Nissins are excellent with good disks and pads, and new fluid with no bubbles in! Wink

The Aprilia RS and (most) Ducati Brembos are only cheap mass produced items anyway, not pukka race stuff. They just carry the logo and aren't any better or any worse than Nissin or Tokiko.

It's all Mafia see! That's why Aprilia and Ducati use Brembo! Laughing

However, getting something like the GP or Monoblock Brembo's with tini coated pistons will make a difference (both in braking performance and your bank account balance!).

For sure, but the stuff on the majority of the road bikes aren't anything special.

A bit like having a Fiat with a Ferarri badge on it!

Oh, as for how they are better?

With the GP calipers, the billet design makes them lighter, as well as stiffer. The design does bring with it better pad retraction especially when the pistons have special coating such as tini coating added.

For race purposes, the easy pad removal makes them well worth it. I know I can swap out pads in less then a minute (both sides).

The Mono Block brings to the table the fact that the entire unit is one solid billet block (not two halves bolted together).

The stock units found on the Duc and Aprilia are about as special as the Nissan. Simple cast just like any other caliper you would find. The main difference is the Brembo logo Smile And possible a little better pad retention/removal setup.

Charles is just upset 'cos he has Brembo's on his RS! Very Happy

Not the same as road bike Brembo's though! The race bike stuff, as I've already said, is better than the common stuff! Wink

Upset? Me? About having the GP's on my bike? Na, they provide some of the most amazing brake feel I have ever experienced.

Its just the NSR I've gotten doesn't have any brakes, but I have the full system off my aprilia RS250. Do I sell that and buy the stock bolt-on-no-probs NSR stuff, or get mounting plates for the brembo's...

If you already got a set of calipers, then you might as well get the plates and go with them. If nothing else you get cool points for have "Brembo" on the side of your gold calipers Smile

Oh ye... did I mention that the NSR Nissin calipers look lik hell, and are a pain to clean? The Brembo calipers seem to clean up a little easier then the Nissin's do.
