I am new here but been following this forum for some time now. I have yet to get my Nsr250 but it is on the way and I can hardly wait but I have one problem. I am finding it difficult to find a MC 21. I can however find MC 18's, do you think I should wait to find an MC21 or do this think an 18 would be fine? Are there any major differences - I know there are less parts you can buy to mod it etc but is there anything I should know about that will cause a problem.
There are two MC18's, the Mk1 (MC18R2J and R4J-SP) and Mk2 (MC18R5K and R6K-SP).
There is nothing inherently wrong with an MC18, and the motor in stock form is arguably better than the MC21's, but the MC21 is overall a slightly "sharper" package, and has better support. Remember though that the biggest issue for the NSR is the crank rebuild parts are not officially available. The MC18 uses a different centre seal to the MC21/28 (a seal is available for these models) so if the crank dies you could run into big problems.
The MC18 suspension will need a good rebuild and the F3 shock link plates to sharpen the steering, then you will find it's still a very competent bike.
I would personally choose a Mk2 for the integrated PGM-II electronics, but it doesn't really matter. _________________ Andy.

Hi Taji
What do you want to do with your NSR when you get it? Road or race. I know of a few MC21s available in Durban, but they are all race bikes. Let me know

In your boots, I'd get a MC18, and put a MC21 bottom end into it. You get the availability of the MC18 in your area, and a bottom end that you can still get crankshafts for...
I had an MC18, all stripped down for racing. Went really well. Then I got an Aprilia RS. Went well, but went bang a lot.
Got tired of that, and got another NSR, an MC21 this time, which is an as yet unridden work in progress... _________________ The Chopster
can you believe it I found a '93 NSR MC21SE for R10 500 which is about £670 here in Cape Town in good condication, what a joke. People here not even know what these bikes are worth.
Same thing here in Greece too... People sell here their MC21's about 500 to 900 GBP.... But this is good thing for us...!!!
I bought recently my MC28SP for only 790 GBP...!!! In the advertisement the seller was asking 850 GBP... I said to him "Man, 850 GBP are too much for this two stroke crap"...!!! (sorry guys - I didn't mean that. It was only for buying purposes and to achieve a better price )... And the seller reply's to me... "Ok I will do you a better price"...!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I believe you're going to love your new bike... A true race replica...
