my girlfriend has asked me to ride up to east anglia from devon.
First of all i said no way, because i didn't think me b*lls could bear it and thought it wasn't a wise idea on an old two stroke so far.
what is the general opinion. the bike itself is good and i'd give it fresh oil n all. Would the constant 70mph motorway miles kill it or should i just bum a lift on the back with her.
Ive done a 300 mile day on one of my NSR MC21's. THat was with a TYGA seat pad (read thin hard foam pad). Of course it was 300 miles of all twisties, so there wasn't much time actually sitting on the seat for more then a 1/2 mile at a time.
Bring some oil with you, as the range of the oil tank will be found. _________________ Charles Gallant
I've done fairly long journeys on motorways (100 miles ish) on my old aprilia rs250 not on my nsr250 yet. It did the miles ok but felt like hard work holding the speed constant found i kept having to change gears what felt like a hell of a lot. I would rather get off the motorway and do the twisty bits as strokers like those roads more.
Suppose i'd do it if no other way but not what i would consider fun.
Back in the heyday of 250's people rode them everywhere. I've got a mate who toured europe 2 up on an RGV. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

awesome ! love it ! those were the days indeed !
i slapped 300miles on my MC28 last weekend. motorway, A roads, twisties, dual carriageway. never missed a beat. i don't think they're bothered so long as the magic oil is getting where it should.
My first ever ride on the MC21 was home from the importer's shop at Brands Hatch... over 200 miles! I loved it, and the bike handled it fine. In fact, when I got home all I wanted to do was ride it around for the rest of the afternoon!
I reckon I did another 50 miles around town, down the beach, and around the local B-roads that day! _________________ Andy.

i did 320km twice on my mc 16 one year ago on the highway with avg. of 125 km/h. had no problem with the bike. pit stop for gas 2 time, just on my way back should have went for another pit stop but nope felt too confident for my own good and run out of gas on the high way. used the SOS phone to call for gas! hell it was $$! it was good that i had my pump still working then! _________________ feel the wind
I used to commute for a year, twice a week from Surrey to Bristol, all motorway, on an MC28. It was fine, but maybe that's why I call out for 'the bells' every now and then... _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
Thanks all for the advise and i will go up on the mc21, take plenty of oil. the last 50 miles from cambridge to peterborough is all twisties so i'll get my own back for the punishment of miles and miles of mundane mile crunches and set about blistering the sides of the michelins.
Hey cgallant you've upset the misses but you've given me an idea...she can carry the panniers with all our clothes as i've only got a 250cc and she's got 650cc, which is more suitable for lugging my gear (plus that weight will wear out my sticky tire in no time).
