How can you correlate frame and engine numbers to year of mfg. on the MC28? I was told my NSR was a 96 but I think its older. My frame is MC281000022 and the motor is MC16E-1300031, not sure if its the original mill either. If I look at the parts manual, which lists frame numbers, my bike is a NSR250RR. So like 1993 ~ 94. Not that it really matters as they are all the same mechanically up until the end. _________________ Andre E. Benguerel

I made an enquiry with Honda through the Honda website to varify what model and colour my mc18 should be, i explained that i was restoring it to as close to original as poss. I gave them the engine and frame numbers and they finally replied about 5 weeks later telling me year of manufacture and also the correct colour code for it they even included a couple of pics to show me the correct colour scheme.
I do a few trips to japan auctions each year and have major issues with years of bikes as well.
The way the certifiers do it in New Zealand is to read the codes on the brake hoses. Problem is this is usually a year or two out as (I believe) the parts are marked on their manufacture, not the bike manufacture.
