Wed Jul 09, 2008 10:03 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Booked to do Oulton with focused on the 29th. Anyone else booked on it.

Really I should have mentioned it earlier as it's fully booked up now. Rolling Eyes

How is Oulton on a 250, Mick? It's quite a stretch from here (South West). I always think it looks like a lot of fun on the telly, but wonder how it'd be on a 250 stroker. Do you reckon it's worth a 4 hour drive each way?

Any info/tips gratefully received

Cheers

Oulton is a great track, one of the best in the UK for sure, complex though, makes Cadwell look like Llandow, you'll come back after the first session with no idea where the track goes. It's an odd one really as although there are no huge long straights where you'll get the bike totally flat out in 6th the lap records do imply it's a bit of a power track (Superstock 1.40, club 400 1.52, compare that to Cadwell, Superstock 1.31, club 400 1.37).

It won't hurt to post this up again, Foggy (NC30) vs Whitam (RGV250), circa 1991 at Oulton, unfortunately for us Knickerbrook (that's the insane speed r/h'er where Foggy passes Whit into at 2.50ish on the vid) is now a fairly quick chicane as run off there is non existent.

Big money to do there though, £150+ in summer.

As Fontyyy says really.

Although it is the only track apart from Llandow I've been too and it makes Llandow look like a mickey mouse track.

I enjoyed it last time I went on the 250 with Fontyyy on his 28 and Billy (nsrmonkey) on his track CBR400.

It is pricey £159 for the 29th but I'd probably spend the difference in fuel travelling somewhere else as Oulton is the nearest good track to me.

Thanks fella's. That's really useful info (and yes the foggy/whitham footage is always worth another look Very Happy).

Sounds like it'll be a bit of challenge then as I was pretty lost when I had a couple of sessions round Cadwell at the PB 90s bikes track eve thing a while back. I'm hoping to get to grips with it a bit more at the two stroke do on the 23rd though, and if I manage to get some reasonable consistency going on there (even consistently slow is better than just plain bewildered Laughing), then I reckon it'll be worth having a crack at Oulton at some point.

Either of you two doing the 2T day on the 23rd?

See you there then, Fontyyy. Martin's bringing up the NSR-D350 YPVS thingy too. I'm hoping to take both the 3XV and the 3MA (er, just in case Laughing) and I think there is lots of other intersting stuff booked in as well, so it should be a belting day out if we get reasonable weather. I can almost smell it all already...

Cheers

Might be worth having a word with Gareth (Z1100R on the RD forum) Nigel, if you haven;t already? He loves his zeeltronic. And his valve certainly seems to go well with it.

See you there! Should be the stroker 'event of the year' I'd think.

Cheers

As Fontyyy says, Oulton is a great track. I have it as being on a par with Cadwell. I still (just) prefer Cadwell as my favourite track at the mo`.
I personally would say Cadwell is the harder track to get right though. Oulton is slightly easier to ride in my opinion.
