MC18 R2J / MC21R Forks and shock

Sun Jul 27, 2008 7:10 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

The fork seals need doing on the 18 and the tubes arent in the best condition.

I've got a set of 21 tubes with chrome that is in better condition.

Are the tubes a straight swap?

I've just had my forks rebuilt by Gareth at Reactive, and he said that he could get 18 tubes but not 21's. Apparently they are only about 2mm different in length, but he had to make some parts and use other parts off other bikes to get them to work properly. I think its something to do with the bushes and the damping but I'm not an expert!

Also is an MC21 shock a straight swap for an 18 one?

No, the MC18 shock is shorter. I've heard one of the earlier CBR600 shocks will work, and you can get those with remotes too. See them for about £40~£50 on eBay a lot. Wink

Pretty much answered my own questions whilst working on the bike today.

The 18's tubes are slightly different at the bottom and the damping rod is completely different.

So I decided I'd rebuild the set I took off my 21 when I fitted SP ones.

The 18 forks are 30mm ish longer than the 21's so have in effect dropped the front 30mm. Not sure how twitcy it's going to be but I suppose I'll find out on Tuesday.
