Hey NSR World
My MC21 has turned into a major project...which I through would be a small project to start when I received the bike.
The seller did not have the upper fairing (headlight and windscreen fairing)
I found this out today !!! But I didn't ask...1st time NSR owner that I am.
Here's my problem...the bike is a 1993 MC21 SP BUT has 1992 Rothmans OEM plastics. Since I need the upper and I like the TYGA Suzuka Upper. Could I sell the very nice OEM Rothmans Lowers and Tail panels and get the full TYGA kit painted like the bike should be for it's year OR stick with the Rothmans scheme( which I LOVE) and paint the Suzuka Upper to match???
Also I have the red Magteks...would you paint them white to match the Rothmans scheme as Honda did in 1992.
Please give me some input guys. _________________ 1993 MC21 SP
Rothmans, in my personal opinion, is without doubt the prettiest NSR colour scheme. In fact, it's widely acclaimed as the prettiest race rep full-stop... even many of the Suzuki boys admit they like the MC28 Rothmans even more than the Lucky Strike VJ23!
I would personally keep the OEM Rothmans panels and paint an upper (and definitely the Magteks) to match. Then keep your eye out for an OEM Rothmans upper (MC21 or MC28, as it's won't concours anyway, so choose the upper you like the most!) and then you have the best of everything! _________________ Andy.

I'm no paint expert, but I think you may possibly suffer "bleeding" of the red through the white. They will probably need to be refinished professionally. _________________ Andy.

What he said! Aside from the Marlboro orange paint scheme on the Yamaha racers, I think the Rothmans is the best paint job. Stick with it! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Yeah, if I had a 3MA or 3XV, it would most certainly have to be in dayglo Marlboro, but it's definitely a second to the Rothmans colour scheme! _________________ Andy.

Painting over the wheels is fine. If you do powdercoat make sure the shop knows they are dealing with magnesium alloy. I scuffed up my white Magteks with a Scotch-brite pad and painted them a mettalic grey and they look very good.

[quote="mick"]Although the honda scheme is a poor replicla as the blue is the wrong colour.
What you want is a proper paint job.

Different Rothmans Blue at different times:
Late 80's darker, 90's lighter...........
The MC18SP had the right blue for its era, as did the MC21SP _________________ Rich

Said the man with TWO Pentax's... or is that Pentaxi?!
As long as the blue matches the blue of the Rothmans stickers, I don't think it really matters... unless you have Racer38's HK bodywork, and then it would be purple!
