Can anyone confirm my suspicions of this bike being a fake? Price tag seems real high to me. I would consider buying it if it's the real deal. Something looks fishy with the swingarm and plastics.
Well, the plastics are far eastern tat for sure, '28 nose cone, wrong blue etc. It's not an SP either (no Magteks).
So, it's not what it first appears to be but is anyone claiming it's an SP? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
He's not claiming it's a Rothmans, simply a rothmans colour. Looks tidy to me, so if you think so too make him an offer! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

The seller does say Rothmans colours - same as brand new. The blue appears darker than OE so its likely an aftermarket job. Looks pretty good though.
The nose cone is not OE, front vents + fit line to lower fairing (under the indicator). Not a major issue though.
Lower fairing looks OE, but check the belly pan area, there seems to be a huge gap where the LHS expansion chamber exits. Worth checking for any fairing bracket / fitment probs.
Also confirm if its on 2T oil injector or premix. If you intend the bike for regular road use, oil injector is much easier (IMO). Mirrors would also be useful for road use .
Mechanically, the bike looks very tidy, on the exterior at least. Suggest you compare this with other MC21's recent selling prices in Canada. Fully OE spec bikes can command a slightly higher premium than those with non OE bodywork + paint, of similar age / condition / kms. Not always though
Also check if its an R or SE model. Looks like an SE, think I can see fork adjusters, check for the dry clutch.
Does anyone know when gold coloured brake disc rotors made an appearance on the MC21?? _________________ Rich

I've not seen any NSR's with discs that colour! For gold discs though, you need to go to an MC28. All the MC21's were a silver or "champagne" sort of colour.
I think all the MC28's went gold in 1995... but not that kind of gold! I would put 50p on them having been re-painted. _________________ Andy.

Also check the seat / tail unit. No bum pad, and doesn't look like there is the lockable access panel to the underseat storage, indicating aftermarket bodywork. Not a huge issue, but tricky if you want to carry some tools or a packed lunch
My bike cost me the equivalent of Canadian $10,000 The UK NSR market is somewhat 'strong' at the moment. I noted from another thread that typical California NSR prices range from US$4500 to US$6000 for a clean OE spec bike. Not sure how Canada + US market compares, but you could well negotiate down a fair bit from CAD $6900, given all the non OE bodywork. _________________ Rich

$6900 is way too much for the U.S. market for a 21, especially that one with all the aftermarket bodywork. Even a SP Rothmans 21 doesn't get $6900 unless it's the cleanest low mileage example you've ever seen.
I think the Canada market is about the same as the U.S.
I have the same gold disks on my MC21 SE, but I have only owned it since March and I couldn't tell you if they had been painted or were original.[/img] _________________ Les

That figures, we pay more for just about everything over this side of the pond, NSRs seem no exception _________________ Rich

Your bike is super clean Rich so who knows what that would go for here.
I think you guys pay less for parts though. Our currency has rebounded a bit in the last week against the Yen but we still pay a fortune for parts. Over the last few months I've spent $6k for OEM parts and they all fit in a few boxes
Thanks for all your input guys...I might as well go have a look at it since it's a 15 minute drive from me. Like apexxn said the price seems real high. I wouldn't give him anymore than 5k for it. Wouldn't mind bumping up to a 21 though as I'm starting to find it real difficult to locate spares for my mc18's..
