Hi guys,

I've recently bought an MC21 as part of my old 2 stroke collection and its in need of some love, so I'm stripping it down for a rebuild. Its not too bad condition rwally, but one thing I have found is that I can't get the sprocket off the real wheel as it seems that the threads arestripped in 2 of the bolts that fix it to the wheel.
Has anyone else come across this before? If so, how can I fix it please? I could drill the heads of the bolts off I guess but can the whell treads be repaired?

Use a rubber mallet to knock the complete sprocket & carrier assembly off the wheel from behind.

Once off you will see there are hex heads on the back of the sleeves (which are simply pressed into the sprocket) that the bolts are screwed into. The sleeves are not always a tight fit, so they will often spin unless held from behind.

Make sure you tap the sprocket around its edges evenly, so as to not jam it at an angle in the cush drive. It should come out pretty easily.

Have a look at the diagram in the Online Parts Manual of the assembly, and it should be apparent how it all comes apart.

Threads are actually in the sprocket. The sprocket 'floats' in cush rubbers to allow for transfer of torque forces without destroying wheel or causing traction issues. you may be able to knock the carrier out with a rubber mallet by hitting the back of the sprocket. I recently had to do something similar.
