MC16 hone grit

hello,

I was wondering if anyone could recomend a hone grit for the barrels.

this would be if everything were in working order, using a flex hone ball style to bring it back to a consistent edge and the 45 degree hatches?

I was under the impression you should never hone a NSR cylinder as they are plated and you could ruin them?

And I thought ball hones are never tobe used on ported cylinders since they can change the port shape as the balls pass by the openings?

Wouldn't a bar or flap hone work better?

When I had my cylinders re-plated they were honed when I got them.

Right but they lay it on thick, then hone it to spec. That is different from taking an old used cylinder and running a hone through it. At least I always thought!

I wonder how thick the plating is when new?

True that.

I did have a used cylinder honed the other day after a light seize. Worked out great and is running well.

Good to know. I'll have to get a suitable hone for the kit at the track, just in case...

thanks for replies/input/info. i thought honing is a method of finishing, removing imperfections, removing minimal material? assisting in smooth piston movement and the hatches assist in lubrication. When i rebuild my engine i thought this would be a good idea, of course its gotta be within the spec's/limits.

Also is there many members from perth, western aus?
