If there isn't a good seal (you can put the back of the cage to your mouth and suck as a crude test!) because of worn cages and/or reeds, then you will lose some primary compression and most likely drop in power.

There's not much to a 2-stroke, so it's vital that every component is in peak condition. It's the difference between 58hp and 63hp on the same motor! Optimisation of the same components is the difference between 63hp and 68hp.

Yeah, reed cage assemblies aren't too expensive, and OEM work perfectly well for 99% of applications. Certainly best to replace them.
