Hullo all! I'm after a bit of advice about fairing panels for my MC28. I had a bit of an off at Oulton, and the rhs of my fairing is a bit spanked up, but still useable. So my quandry is - try & find matching oe panels, or go with Tyga, or one of those full fairing kits from China you see on eBay. What do you reckon? Are the Chinese fairings any good? Does anyone know where I can get hold of oe panels? David Silver don't have the one I need on their website, but I haven't mailed them yet
OE panels are hard to come by, especially if you want a colour match, the same with second hand.
The Chinese stuff seems to vary in quality, mine from HK was good for the money but others have had issues. None fit 100%. Remember if the tax man gets hold of it you can add a big chunk of duty to the price, same with Tyga.
If you want to keep the bike mint and its value up, its got to be OE. If you want trick, Tyga, if it’s a track bike and it may go down again, Chinese or race body work.
If the panel isn't too bad, then I would consider repairing/repainting it. Nothing, and I mean nothing is as good as OEM! It fits properly, it looks great, and is worth more than any aftermarket stuff.
My HK GRP stuff is absolute shite. You can read about it if you do a search. Some others say they have been lucky. I have no reason to disbelieve them, but I have seen ANY Chinese stuff that I would consider any good personally, regardless of how cheap it was! Maybe I'm just too fussy. I would prefer to have plain white TYGA stuff over "pretty in the pictures - crap in reality" Chinese stuff for a similar price. An OEM pattern fairing from TYGA* is about £200 + shipping (probably close to £100), the Chinese stuff is about £300~350. Yeah, you get a seat and paint, but you still need a painted tank, so in the real world you can add another £200 to that if you don't know someone in the trade.
There are always panels of various colours on Yahoo! Auctions. Sometimes mint or even brand new. Be prepared to pay for a premium for the best stuff though. What colours are you after, and which panel needs replacing?
*Pattern is pattern, regardless of where it comes from. TYGA's stuff is good, but it's never as good as Honda... it's just better than some others. I've seen Japanese fibre that fits almost perfectly, and mega expensive Silhouette stuff that was appalling. My MC16 and MC18 HRC bodywork fits really well, but in its day, I believe it was similar money to road plastics!
I firmly believe now, if you buy cheap, it will look cheap. I would look on Yahoo and also contact Jap4Performance in the UK to see what he can do TYGA stuff for, as the shipping and duty is already taken care of. At least you have a firm price to go on then. Ti Supporting Members should get a discount from Jap4Performance too. _________________ Andy.

Am waiting for my NSR to be shipped here now and it looks in awesome condition for a 15 year old bike.
I am pretty tempted to take off all the standard bodywork and wrap it in bubblewrap and put it in the loft tbh. Then wack Tyga stuff on. I did think about the HK ebay stuff but I dont want all the hassle making it fit. Especially with my sausage fingers.
The TYGA MC28 looks pretty nice, but I would have to get a modern take on Rothmans as that is the only paint job for an NSR (all in my humble opinion of course ).
For the first few months it will stay as it is as I need to save my pennies for the new bodywork.
I might contact Jap4 to get a quote though. _________________ Lemon owner and lover
MC21 and MC28 tanks come up from time to time, but not a lot. They are interchangeable (different shape though), but the MC21 has seat panel mounting lugs on the bottom rear of the tank whereas the MC28 does not. Nothing dramatic.
Price is whatever you are willing to pay. They're hardly ten-a-penny now! Best get on Yahoo! Japan in my opinion. _________________ Andy.
