Festival 1000 Bikes - Mallory Park: NSR-World Stand?

Thu Dec 11, 2008 1:24 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Gauging interest guys?

I've contacted the organiser (VMCC) and there are still a few places left for clubs stands on the 'Avenue of Clubs'. There is also an opportunity for dedicated track sessions for each club, but the minimum grid is 30 bikes Shocked Unlikely this number could be met, but it may be possible to join the general road bike track sessions on individual applications, I'm trying to find out more details.

The event date is 11th-12th July 2009.

More info http://www.vmcc.net/1000bikes/1000home.htm

Space is going fast, so if we're doing this it will need confirming pretty sharpish.

I'd be interested in a meet up somewhere. It's not too far from me and the A5 could be a good route

Well, after what has been an underwhelming response, I've decided not to pursue a Club Stand at this event this year.

Sorry to say that guys, but I did think after Beaulieu was cancelled there may have been more interest for a new annual NSR event gathering. Appreciate some of guys (Fontyyy / Nigel) have / may have race events which clash with the 1000 Bikes weekend.

Motorcycle World was really good last year, going forward I haven't given up on trying to establish an annual gathering for us at a new venue, at least once a year!

I still like Andy's idea of a Le Mans / Northern France invasion. I can set us all up with a base at a Chateau in the Loire Valley, about 40 mins ride from Le Mans, during the MotoGP or 24 Hr Endurance weekends or any other. The roads around there are great. Food for thought anyway. And Si's idea of a track day is still a good one - Si, when I've finished my 21R Track Bike project we should get to Cadwell, even if its 2 of us!!

Anyway, I'll be running my 21SP at the Mallory Festival in the 'road bike' track sessions. 2 on Saturday, One on Sunday. Sunday also has the unlimited decibel race bikes, if anyone plans to watch, Sunday will be the best day Wink

It would be good if there were some other NSRs out on track as well.
If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll email you the application form.

The thing with Beaulieu, and also Llandow, is that it's southerly!

The guys who consistently participate in events, "The Usual Suspects", are Jeff, Wayne, Tom, Nigel, and Fontyyy (but he's a nutcase and will drive/ride 5 hours/30 mins for an ice cream, and fly 6000 miles for a bottle of rum and some heavy dance music at the slightest prompt!), and usually Stephen. Apart from Tom, Nigel and the nutter, we're all based in the far south/SW, and EVERYTHING else organised is a long way away!

When Jeff organised Beaulieu or his college open weekend, or I organised Llandow, or Steve organised a dyno weekend in Plymouth, we were all glad to have something "local" for a change, and given that we on average (at the times of those events) had about 13~15 NSR's between us, it was never hard to put on a good show without relying on anyone else! Jeff knows just how hard it is to put something together now though, after doing Beaulieu twice, and that was without the £2k outlay I had to pay up front for Llandow a couple of times before getting confirmed place orders.

I've found the way to go to be to drum up some definite "local" support first with people you know you can count on, and then build on that. Jeff was lucky that he could pretty much fill the requirments of the show with bikes for very few people (I offered to lend him mine while I was away if needed to make up numbers), and I worked out how much it would cost a handful of us to privately "rent" LLandow for a day! That was the initial plan... to have the track for a day between about 6 of us just for hooning around! We were each prepared to pay the couple hundred quid, but as word got around, so more people got in on it. It was the same half dozen people mentioned at the start of the post who were the instigators again though!

The only way to get something running is to throw caution to the wind and commit. It's always ended up good, but it never starts out too promising. I would certainly be interested in setting up some kind of display "team" through the site, but I just don't have the time to coordinate it at the moment. It does take a lot of commitment though.

It looks like this year is going to see a bit of a Honda assault on DP F250. I hope many of the UK Forum Members will come together at events this season, which could form a good basis for get togethers next year. With the first Llandow/dyno weekend, it brought a lot of people together who got on really really well, which consequently saw good response to other gatherings (like Jeff's college weekends, Beaulieu, Ace Cafe Blue Haze Day etc.) but it fizzled out in 07, and therefore lost momentum last year.

If someone were to take the reigns (or clipons!) for this year and organise some gatherings, I am sure there could be some good meets again.

Steve, I saw that the RC30 / 45 owners club took a stand at Mallory in 08, so there again in 09. If it was me, I'd be inclined to enter your F3 NSR for the Race Bike Track session. VMCC may think differently, but I reckon its the only F3 'Japan Race Series' spec NSR in the UK as far as I'm aware, and absolutely worthy of consideration for a paddock & track outing. Who cares about so called 'show' status?

Andy, encouraging words. I'm more than willing to take hold of the 'clip-ons' and arrange an event. I'd be happy to pursue an NSR-World stand at Mallory, I just need a few definites. As I'm running my 21SP on track, it can't be on the stand. Come one guys, I'll do all the running, just tell me you can provide a few bikes???

I've not responded for the exact reason you mention, DP's race calendar is still provisonal.

Plus Mallory as a track to ride is somewhere between dangerous, terrible and rubbish.

Fontyyy, isn't that missing the point? Yes I agree Mallory is a crap track compared to Oulton or Cadwell etc. But in conjunction with DP250 / 400 race meetings, its a worthy outing for some road based / non-race track committed NSRs to run at? Its only a parade at the end of the day. Plus part of a wider gathering of people, where the NSR Flag can be flown, is always a good thing.

Yep, Fontyyy, if I was running a race bike, my priority would be the race weekend, not a casual 'parade'. But the regular NSR racers are a relatively small group. Come on others, if you buy in to the whole NSR thing, at least buy in to some practical involvement, be it racing or events or meets??

If you do decide to go for a stand Rich, I’ll bring the Movie star up.
And I’ll see about dragging Wayne along too. Not seen him for a while, we have both been away from the forum for a bit. But I’m sure he will be up for it.
