what are the basics to look out for in your nsr? like spark plug colour and so forth?

Pretty much the same things as applied to that then.

Tan coloured plugs, good two stroke oil, good gearbox oil, clean filter fitted.

Is it totally standard or 'enhanced' in any way?

didn't mean to offend maybe just had a bike that wasn't looked after by previous owner,

with transmission oils, any thing in particular?

Not really, just use the best you can and at the right levels - see the specifications for the details.
