Tire question

Sat Apr 11, 2009 5:30 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey all. Just wondering if I throw my mc18 rear tire and rim on my 21...I realize there is a difference in height but is it possible? Also would there be any drawbacks in doing so?

While non of the HRC manuals for the NSR say you can Honda often listed 18" rears for other bikes such as the RC30 and RC45 to go along with the more common racing size then of 17". So while there may be little benifit in doing it its not unheard of.

Of course HRC then intended you to alter the ride hight etc with their shock which unless you have a adjustable shock you can't do to compensate.

However a '21 with a little more rear ride hight isnt a bad thing as I'm sure Andy will agree too.

Give it a whirl. The later MC18's ran a 150 tyre the same as a '21.

Thanks for the quick response. Just trying to save a few bucks really..The 18 tire is brand new and the 21 is bald and hard as rock.

I imagine yours is set like mine Steve, with the ride height adjuster wound out pretty much as far as it will go! HUGE improvement over stock.

The rolling radius of an 18" wheel/tyre will probably be more significant than the 0.5" (that's half an imperial inch Fontyyy... about 12.7mm!Wink) or so gained in ride-height though.
