crazy rev's on cold start

Thu Apr 16, 2009 7:50 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I know I must have seen something like this somewhere on the site, and I remember I have also replied for it and might have closed the case, but I was wrong. I don’t think that my reply was any good.
Now the problem has come back to haunt me.
As the topic my bike rev to 6000 rpm during a cold start with the choke on.
This will not happen when the idle screw is set to the bottom and just scratching the stopper after a carburetor clean, synchronizes…
But after the bike is adjusted for steady idle 1200 to 1300rpm, this problem will come again during the next cold start.
Is this an air leak? Or too high idle setting? Float height problem?
What can be done to test it?
i can lower the idle when its going crazy during cold start by lowering the idle screw position or close the choke, closing the choke often resaults a drop in rpm during start up but mostly it will also foul the front plug.
