Carb plumbing...I have a fuel leak!

Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:42 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I just finished rebuilding my motor...put everything together and had a fuel leak...upon inspection i found 2 nipples on the carb not connected to anything...

Does any one know where these hoses connect to?

Pictures of the correct connection would be great!

Thanks!
Jon

Ok...searching the forum...seems like these nipples are for the carb overflow and I might have a float level issue...

Time to figure out how to check that now...

so much learning!

yeah they are the overflow outlets. Hook them up with a hose that runs down to just behind the rear brake pedal. There should be a clip there for them.

I've had this happen twice on various NSRs. Both times it was because the needle which shuts off the fuel to the float bowl wasn't fully closing.

You'll need to disasemble the carb, remove the floats and needle. Then clean out the area where the needle seats with a cotton bud (Q Tip) dipped in brass cleaner (Brasso). Both times the seat had become a little corroded or covered with crap so wouldn't allow the needle to seat properly/shut off the fuel. Spent about 15mins on each one......worked a treat

It's a fairly simple operation, even for me Shocked , so good luck.

Thanks for the great write up racer38! You do make it sound like a simple operation. I'll give that a try as well as hooking up a hose to the overflow nipples...

According to http://tech.nsr-world.com/nsr/nsr-all/carb-settings/ the correct float height for the MC16 is 13mm...am I correct so assume the MC21 is the same?

Thanks!

Appears that the MC21 needs a float height of 12mm.

check out Tyga's site

Unless you use the official figure from this site or the Honda Workshop Manual.
