Hey , guy's I have my MC21 all stripped to the bare frame, and is going out this week for powder-coating in satin-black. The only pieces remaining on the bare frame are the little ''rubber-bushes'' that are pressed in, and mount each expansion chamber, on either side. Does anyone know of a removal-method for these? I tryed with ''bearing-seat-punches'', but no luck. They did not budge? Does anyone know if the powder-coating process will not effect them , thus I could just leave them installed in the frame? thanks ; dave
hey guy "A Big Thanks for early reply! cause I am short on time , BUT will let the ''group'' know how it goes? ( worst case scenario = the rubber melts and new OEM parts ( rubber-bushes) are required?!
I normaly remove them by using two 5mm thick washers (spacers), a large dia tube and a M8 nut and bolt.
One washer is 0.5mm smaller dia than the outside dia of the bush and gets placed on the back with the bolt passed though it.
The tube (1mm bigger dia than the bush) is placed on the other side of the frame with the other 5mm washer (the same dia as the tube and bigger than the first washer) placed on top of that. The bolt passes though all of them with a nut spun on the end.
Tighten the nut up and 9/10 time you will draw the old rubber bush out.
If it refuses to move then we tend to cut a slot from the center hole out to the outter edge of the bush. Then use the above method again. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Man alive Steve.....you really are a mind of usefull information. Is there nothing you've not attemped on an NSR. Apart from pulling the skin off rice pudding with a restricted MC28........cos we know that isn't possible
It's not NSR-specific. It's the same proceedure with just about any pressed in bush. You can use the same/similar proceedure to remove stubborn piston pins, RC Valves, etc. _________________ Andy.
