removing impeller?

Mon May 18, 2009 12:39 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey guys, I got another water pump impeller with all the blades intact still in the engine cover.

The plastic gear on it is shagged though (cracked in multiple places), but much to my relief the existing one from the bike has a very new looking gear (but muffed impeller).

So I want to remove the gear off the shaft put the good one on and with the good impellor and reinstall it.

I see a size 10 socket on the impeller, would you just grip the other end of the shaft in a vice with wood blocks and twist the thing off? left or right hand threaded?

Cheers guys Very Happy

The shaft has a normal (right hand) thread.

Yes just grip the shaft in a vice and undo the impellor as you would a normal nut.

Before reinstalling it though make sure the seal on the back of it isn't cracked.

Wow, those things are on tight!

Not having a bench vice really made things a bit harder than I had anticipated. Anyhow i've swapped it out and reassembled, it seems to be all good though i've not tested thoroughly enough.

I have a suspicion the coolant isn't flowing as well as it should be, i'll look into it some more though. Smile
