Stator voltage

Fri May 22, 2009 1:15 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, I'm trying to find my battery charging problem, it's going flat while idling and gets 14.15 volts at around 4000rpm.

Can anyone tell me what the voltage the stator should be outputting. I get 10v at 1000rpm, 40v at 4000rpm and 60v at 6000rpm, also get 0.9 Ohms across the 3 stator wires and there not grounding either.

The reg/rec sounds like its output is spot on. How old is the battery?

New battery and new rectifier.

Today I pulled the stator out and had a look and cleaned the corrosion from the faces and it seems to have helped. Now gets 12v idling at the battery instead of going flat and around 15v at the stator.

I replaced the rectifier as it used charge just fine when I had a multimeter on it, then go flat when far from home usually at night Rolling Eyes

Sounds to me like a battery issue, If there's more than 14V and less than 15V, and its goin flat on ya, there's a prob with battery

Do your lights operate normally with ignition on? If not then your battery has prolly lost a cell, and will still appear to have normal readings, but its stuffed.

If you replaced the RR after you replaced the battery, chances are you have cooked a cell out of your new battery, thanks to the old RR. Rolling Eyes

Battery was replaced after the regulator.

I'm thinking its the stator dying, anyone know what voltage the stator outputs at idle.
