Once Over....

Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:10 pm » Post: #6 » Download Post

Had a chance to take the panels off and give the bike a once over tonight.
Quiet engine no rattles, crisp exhaust note and a very responsive throttle immediately brought back the thoughts of what an MC21 must be like in comparison to my old MC16. So I took it up the road once nicely warmed up and immediately noticed a serious lack of power, bike seemed to just gain speed and lose all hope at 8-9,000 rpm. (the MC16 would have dusted it) Confused

Anyway cut to the chase.......

Checked wire splice just the O/Blue -> Bl/Wh nicely done though.

Checked oil pump and throttle cables all fine.

Checked power valve for both cylinders and noticed they were very loose and not really moving all that much when running through the checks listed here. After removing the plates from the cables I could clearly see that they were rounded off and so not really turning the valves at all.

Where do you think will be the quickest place to get a couple replacements? I was thinking David Silver might be able to help I need the nuts and any washers too.

Cheers Jimmy

Oh what a shock, an NSR with badly setup powervalves!

The part you really need (apart from the butterfly itself 14321-KV3-770 or 14322-KV3-770 depending if its front or rear) is 90555-KV3-000 which is the square holed washer that stops the butterfly working its way down the shaft and wearing it's centre hole round.
That of course and the l/h threaded nut 90310-634-980.

All of them and the other two washers (90408-KV3-770 and 90437-GM0-000) are listed by Lings.com as available right now and none are very expensive.

Have a look in the parts manual, see what bits you need (and how they should be fitted), order them then be sure to read how to set it up, I've never yet seen a bike from an unknown source that had them done correctly.
