I have just had my project NSR dyno'd and it put out 63bhp at the rear wheel.I am quite pleased but should I expect more?Is this fairly average for an MC21?Any thoughts always appreciated.
It has had TYGA pipes and chambers ,AKTIV reeds,TYGA reed cages and stuffers ,i factory coils and leads,Hrc front cylinder head conversion including RS plug and cap,F3 rad,Hrc clutch, all ported and polished,Jha carb kit,Daytona turbo filter.
The guys that have set it up have jetted it for an 'average set-up' i.e for the road.I am no expert in 2 stroke tuning just a complete nsr fan.The thing is unless it is set up by someone who knows nsr's in and out I will never get the true bhp. However this is my first NSR project and my second NSR that I have owned(the first one was stock). This bike was a complete shed 6 months ago and it has been a steep learning curve. The bike has completely changed and hopefully should make Poser's World soon!
63hp is the "magical" NSR figure! I always like to see a well sorted NSR up to that area, but anything over 60hp is going in the right direction.
It sounds like you have a pretty tight motor there, so who knows, maybe some fine tuning, checking of the RC Valves, and a new set of chain & sprockets (yep, even they can make a difference!) will see you into the mid 60's.
We look forward to seeing it in Posers World! _________________ Andy.

It really depends on how far you want eh dyno operator to take it on the jetting... You could eek out 70bhp from that set up but it wouldn't last very long if you didn't re-jet for changing climate conditions, so if it feels strong with 63bhp then it's a good figure _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
You cannot compare runs done on different dyno's.They all vary.In fact runs done on the same dyno will vary quite a lot even on the same day too many variables to take into account, air humidity, air pressure and temperature to mention but a few.But its still nice to know whats your bike is putting out on the day _________________ NSR MC28 SE(CASTROL)(sold)
You should be able to compare graphs as long as they arrre done on the same dyno. All the newer types such as the dynojet 200/250 use softwear to compensate for air humidity, air pressure and temperature. If you ran your bike on a wet day and then again 6 months later on a sunny day. If the bike had not be altered the reading should be less than about 1bhp differance.
All Dyno jet softwear takes readings 3 times a second to insure that runs can be compaired to later runs. If for some reason the softwear feels that the condition differances are too great for an comparison a warning is displayed.
The idea that you can't compaire dyno readings from the morning to the afternoon comes from a time when the dyno was a "real" brake and before every run a person had to take readings such as air pressure and temp. Of course some people were lazy and didnt, meaning that the graphs that were calculated meant bugger all as all the factors had changed in the time between runs. Its now all done by the computer so is pretty much error free.
Of course there are still ways aroudn things... If one run is done with the dyno room pressurised and then the next without the increase or decrease in power will be put down to engine performance not conditons. This is where you have to find a trusted dyno where everything is done of a level playing feild. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
ok guys lets calm it down!!! The info is handy but I was just sounding you guys out to see if my NSR was in the right area for its state of tune.I did not want it to be under powered.I think 63 at the wheel is ok but now I am not sure as there is a conflict of answers!!!!!
63 is a good for an NSR. With ported barrels i woudl of thought maybe something over 65 but like discussed, every dyno is differnt.
Andy (nsr-world) made 62 i think last time we tested it. That was with the same kinda set up as you but without the port work. My MC18 63 without port work but after a whole lot of setting up.. 80 something runs infact. Bill Limbs MC21 made 65-66 with slightly modded exhaust ports. So Your 63 is right there. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Thanks for the comparisons Stephen.I think this bike in the right hands could make more but I think the guys have set it up to be reliable.I am fairly new to this depth of 2 stroke tuning and I have only had this bike since October. It has been a real jump in the deep end.The trouble is when you only know a small amount about tuning you have to trust the guys setting it up.
