MC21 de-restricted - Airbox

Hello everyone.
Formally from Australia, but now working in Japan.
Just bought a mc21 from yahoo auctions Japan and arrived today. Its HRC de-restricted and jha pipes.
It arrived with no airbox lid (but came with a spare), but i also grabbed a couple of high flow air filters off the auctions and am wondering if anyone on here has fitted these and whether they are alright for the road.
One airbox post suggested they were too extreeme unless at a track, is this just a noise issue?
Had a stock 21 back in aus so excited about a derestricted fang this week after a trip to the service shop! Twisted Evil

Hi and welcome!

I've run open carbs on the road and know a couple of people who've done the same or run pod filters.

It's loud, but no louder than removing the lid and lock wiring the filter in place.

Dave Ett will be along in a while to say it's too loud, but you need to bear in mind he is wrong.

Twice in one day I will have to agree with Fontyyy too, Dave is wrong! I run pods, and even run an extra loud clutch with no cover, just to add to the atmosphere of it all! Very Happy

I think you have to have one of each (not on the same bike!)

Open carbs and dry clutch on one

Moded air box and dry clutch on the other.

You can't beat pod filters when it comes onto pipe, unless your passing an unmarked cop like I've done.

I put some pods on my '21 the other day, I know it's for the best but I'm not happy with them.

For sheer noise you can't beat PJ's or PWK's I reckon, especially on an F3/RS. They may not perform as well as NSR carbs, but they sound the business!
