Back in australia this was the bike I wanted over all others. Just my luck, when I moved up here to the states, well I found that very very few were actually brought here and even less are legal for the road. Years pass and days go by until finally I one morning wake up and was so tired instead of going to craigslist I punched in "NSR250 craigslist" into google. The first one was a ad in Portland, I clicked and low and behold, JUST POSTED LESS THAN 2min AGO! I replied to the ad and called dibs. Guy responded saying he had had over 100 replies in 2 hours, but I was the only one that called dibs on the bike, so he told me lets let a date for 2 weeks from now. Two weeks pass, and we set a date for a week later for me to come. CRAP had to work that day and waited another week.
I am very proud and happy to have a NSR, love the handling and the feel. Just need to start cleaning and getting some new plugs for her.
281lbs WET, handles like a dream and the feel of a legal 2 stroke street bike inbetween my legs... PRICELESS.
Other bike is a Kawasaki AR80 I will be restoring this winter.
Whoa, that's one nice MC21. I know it's rare to see one in the States let alone a stock one.
Pity it's turning to winter over there. I guess you'll be gettin' her ready for next summer.
Talking of quality strokers from an era gone by.......
Paul's in the process of shipping his beloved Fizzy to TYGA HQ. He's already thrown the cylinder onto my desk...Hmmmm....he even leapt back to his childhood and bought a 60cc big bore kit for it!
Should be a bit of a laugh. We'll be documenting the rejuvenation of a classic 70's pedal assisted Yamaha over the next few months.
I've told Paul that I'll only rebuild the motor on the condition that I can thrash the bejeezus out of it round Bira Circuit on a track day. Thankfully he agreed
The first problem I can see is that the 70's style porting is just so very 70's. Can't see it making any real power, but I have a plan.
My first steed was a good old Suzuki A100. Then RD200, which of course meant an RD350LC after that. Then I stupidly went for a 600cc boiler Sold that old lump to buy a TZR125 ministocker to go racing, and a C50 (with a 90cc motor) to get to work on
I went off the rails a little when I started racing 250's and bought a GSXR1100, but in my defense I raced an MC28 and my other streeter was an MC21. Obviously the Gixxer didn't see much action. It was a fat heavy lump, so I sold it to the muslim rental woman.
Anyway, back on track.
Twilight, get that 21 sorted and go give it some stick. It'll be the best money you've spent so far.
Started cleaning today, can anyone tell me the norm compression of the engine cylinders? After it warms up its a good runner, but when cold its a pain to start.
I need to sell that AR, haha but I wanna see it restored or made nice again, one kick or two kick starter, everything but a ding on the tank and the engine plus some triple tree rust is okay.
