Hi all, Just another newbie, I am most of the other 2 stroke forums but thought I would check this one out with a possible project so sorry if my first post is questions.
Anyway looking at another future project but need to know a few things first.
MC16:
They have akward size wheels & tyres, what 17" wheels have been used front and back, im gessing CBR600 front & back ? ? ?
Forks, what fits straight on or have been fitted with a little mod, again gessing CBR600 stuff, maybe VFR400 ? ? ?
Petrol tank, what other tanks fit the MC16, eather a bolt on or something that fits with mods.
I can get my hands on an MC16 compleate and cheap, the tank is ruted way to much, forks are shot along with the brakes etc. The project would be for an RD350 engine to go in there that I have spare, I know its a tight fit, not sure if anyone else has ever done one but I know someone with an MC21 & RD engine.
I have done a search and looked high and low but have come up with no info as of yet.
Ahh, there we go then. I knew it was more narrow but with all the 125/350 conversions thought it may just fit, but its just I can get my hands on an NSR MC16, maybe ill just get it and break it for spairs.
I know it was running about three years ago and was fine, it then had a pair of CDI and left outside since, its realy rough now.
Im sure on here alot of parts would be sold quick, are there any parts that are rare?
I am trying to get an mc16 ready for forgotten era racing next season so am upgrading it in preperation.
The RD350 engine may go in. I have both an rd350 engine and mc16 chassis so could measure the differences between them if needed.
As for upgrades, well later nsr stuff is a good start, mc18/21/28 forks and wheel/brakes go in. as do later swingarms (well 18/21) and wheel combo's fit!
Petrol tanks.. mc16's fit.. mc18's fit with a little modifying. That I know from experience.
If you do break the bike, I'd be interested in a few bits, but if you continue on the project then it would be interesting to see!

I could get it and brake it, its been avalible to me for a while now but just been cash straped and trying to get my RD350 finished, that has USD front with NC30 rear etc.
Sure in loom, engine, etc I should fetch about £150 or am I way of the mark. If so it would leave the rest of the bike for me to play with
To be honest the bike wont fetch that much in parts.. I just bought a complete bottom end for £40, the top ends arent worth that much due to the restrictions (mc18 has better porting) and the wiring looms are good quality so not a popular part to go wrong if you catch my drift! _________________ More **** two strokes than you can shake a **** stick at.
Well im collecting the NSR mc16 on Sat afternoon, hope to have a good look round it see how bad it is.
If its too bad I may just sell it on or brake for spairs.
If its not too bad I may even rebuild it for myself.
Tank I probably can cut and reweld a new bottom in it.
Forks, are only the NSR range able to slot into the yokes, will any of the CBR/VFR forks fit without changing the yokes.
Standard rear swingarm will do but its just front and rear wheel.
Reason for asking again about other parts is because of the lack of NSR parts avalible, cost & also searched hundreds of pages and found no infomation.
Anything can be made to fit with the right amount of time mate, Best bet for 17" wheels is an mc18 front end (all of it forks, yokes, calipers, wheel etc) mc18 rear swingarm and an mc21 rear wheel. Or an mc18 rear wheel if you dont mind having an 18" one. Like I said, I'm converting mine to that spec (but using a '21 swingarm). If you subscribe you'll be able to see the progress when it gets going! _________________ More **** two strokes than you can shake a **** stick at.
Ahh 2smoke, so if your converting all yours does that mean all your mc16 bits are going to be up for sale
Im gessing alot of people here have got alot of mc16 spairs if they have all upgraded theres. Should have the bike tomorow afternoon so will find out what im doing with it then
Unless you want to do a proper restoration job, then junk all the MC16 running gear (if it's not in really good condition) and go looking for MC18 R2J and MC21 bits as 2Smoke has already suggested. As much as I love MC16's, the stock equipment is garbage unless you want a concours bike.
The problem with an MC18/MC21 front-end is that the clipons will pinch your thumbs on full lock, especially the on the right where there's a large 2T remote reservoir, but the forks (especially MC21 SE/SP ones) are leagues ahead of the MC16 items and you also have the benefit of significantly better brakes.
A Mk1 MC18 swingarm is the way to go, as it's a very easy fit and you don't need to worry about shock linkages and geometry like you do with an MC21 GullArm. The MC16 rear caliper and hanger will swap over, or you can use the better MC18 setup. An R5K 18" wheel makes sense as it's the same width as an MC21 wheel, it keeps the geometry sound, and good 18" tyres will be available as long as VFR400's are around and popular!!
MC18 barrels & heads, carbs, and exhausts are all huge upgrades for the MC16. Although they may not deliver 62~63hp like they do on a delimited MC18, they will still push a '16 into the (very) high 50's if carefully set up. Electronics are likely to be the most limiting factor, plus the standard crankcases on the '16 leave a lot to be desired. You can't (easily) fit later cases, but if you buy some and take a look inside you will soon see how to improve the early ones and make up those few extra horses. _________________ Andy.

Barrel markings are T1 28. Have I got MC28 Barrels on there???
It realy is rough, petrol tank inside is rusted everywhere, forks are realy soft, fromt brakes work but disks have seen better days, rear caliper stuck, no chain.
Been sat like the pics show for three years, within 30 mins of covering everything with WD40 and squwerting petrol into the carbs I had it running, was lumpy etc because I couldent keep the flow of petrol going, no choke cable, carbs need cleaning out after all this time. BUT the motor is sweet.
It's up to you but I was going to keep mine as a standard '16 as they look good, in an old fashioned kinda way! Also the standard handling is like an lc.. almost _________________ More **** two strokes than you can shake a **** stick at.
