Head studs are usually made out of high tensile steel, using stainless is not what I would use, the thread could deform and bind up under torque and could give you grief later on when you are trying to get them off.
I would try and find some proper studs.
That's my 2 cents for today
I can't get any standard ones so this is my best option so far. The 304 stainless is quite hard and not overly brittle. I might just try to torque up some nuts twice the specified tension on the booker rod and see if I can snap it. If it doesn't work I'll have to go shopping again.
Cheers.
P.S. Shear strength of 8mm booker rod is 500 MPA. Any idea what 8.8 or 10.9 is?
I'll be ordering the exhaust stud and nuts from tyga tonight. I hope they can get the parts to me by the time I get my cylinders back( no pressure or anything).
I had a look for the base stud and couldn't find it. So I'll probable just use the stainless. It's only 1 stud and if I had to put my money on either the stainless stud or the aluminum crank case I'd back the 304.
