First time NSR race set up

Sun Oct 25, 2009 3:41 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hoping someone can offer some basic advice, I have set up a few RD LC race bikes so have basic two stroke ability, Ive just got an NSR MC21, Id like to start getting it race track prepped, will the bike still offer good reliability on premix? Is there any traps on these machines that are not obvious to the first time NSR amatuer mekanika? Confused

Hi Mate
Where in australia are you?
pre-mix is fine
Check if wire splice is done to delimit it or get hrc loom
They are a great bike the main problem they have is the power valves can get cloged up and blows the pgm.
There is great info on this site just look through.
Parts here can be a pain postage from tyga can be high .I get most parts from japan auctions or here in clasifieds guys on here are a great help.

How mad do you want to go?

You can spend a fortune and get lots of power, or just do the free stuff and get btween 60 and 65.

I kept the oil pump and air box, but removed the filter and opened up the intake. Used Tyga pipes and HRC jet kit which got me 63hp.

Best money spent is on refreshing the suspension and brakes though, so once you've done the free stuff spend your money on that.

Along with the said engine mods, worth fitting new piston rings or even fresh complete top end. Its not so expensive and will give you a good platform for track use.

Definitely work on the suspension, it was only after riding my 21 track bike & RS250 race bike back to back, I realised how tired the NSR suspension is. Serious dull handling.

Also, get rid of as much weight as possible, even the road wiring loom is pretty heavy. Ditch all unrequired electrics including speedo. HRC race looms occasionally come up on Yahoo Auctions, sometimes for low prices. Or you can convert your road loom, or buy a spare road loom and hack it!

Ditching the oil injector is another good way to shave off weight, go to premix with a ratio of no less oil than 30:1.

If you become a member, you can get your bike in the member build section Wink Also gives you access to the HRC section, useful when looking for HRC race parts on Yahoo auctions and wondering what their value is / what difference they make etc.

This link to the garage shows what I did to my MC21 track bike

Good luck.
