carb settings

Wed Oct 28, 2009 8:31 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, got the standard carb settings off the technical settings. Are these the correct settings to run a standard 21 in our climate as mine seems to be running way rich. Going to check to see if mine have been changed as it came without an air filter. Confused

Check if they've been changed for sure.

Billy's (nsrmonkey) should have been stock.. erm no! 42sj's and 136 mains (I think) were the reason it was a bit rubbish with stock pipes and a stock airbox lid.

Also check the power valves, I've seen more setup wrong than setup right.

I've never set them wrong, but I have left washers off causing the butterfly to wear and then spent weeks trying to find the problem.

Never mind, it's all a learning process eh?

Carb set up or power valves

Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:08 am » Post: #5 » Download Post

Thanks for the replies to my carb problem query. Was wondering could this be a power valve problem. Runs fine to about four thousand rpm, then rubbish to about eight thousand, then revs a lot clearer but feels like its straining to go right, like holding back. Im worried about the valve,s sticking as i,ve read on here it can burn out the pgm Shocked

Fastest way to do it actually.

You need to check the valves will turn easily, so drop the right mid panel off and see if you can rotate the pully wheel by hand.

The motor will offer some resistance, but it should be a smooth feeling from one endstop to the other. If it feels very hard or notchy you really shouldn't run the engine until you've had checked for carbon build up / correctly setup cables.

There are many many reasons for bad running, from the TPS to bad connections on the coils, jetting, powervalves, air filters, air leaks, and and and...
