I couldn't help but notice the other day when I was cleaning my NSR that the cloth I was using to clean my wheels was starting to go a bit red! I was using a Meguiars bike cleaning product, so I wouldn't have thought it was because I was using a harsh cleaning product. Also I am using a soft cloth, so I don't think it's that.
Could it be because the factory paint isn't very good? Or that the wheels have been repainted at some stage, with poor quality paint?
in my experience, polishing any red motorcycle or car will leave red paint on your cloth. this doesnt mean to say that the paint is of poor quality. i dont think red paint has any lacquer coating so your polishing the paint as opposed to polishing the lacquer. as long as you use a good quality polish which isnt too abrasive and a soft cloth you should be able to acheive a nice finish without damaging the paint.
It may have been a water based automotive paint or a cheap acrylic paint. I have no idea weather the nsr's were painted in acrylic or polyurethane, But if it is actually paint coming off I would assume it is not factory paint.
Mate with age paint will oxidise which will make paint go powdery give it a polish and put on a wax that will slow the oxidisation down or strip and repaint .
