MC21 Loom & PGMIII vs. reprogramming PGMIV as HRC030??

Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:47 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Question I have an mc21 loom and PGMIII (plus a funny looking round thing but that’s it do I need anything else??) that I am thinking about putting on my mc28, but am also thinking I should join up send the PGMIV Card away to be reprogrammed to the HRC 030 programme.

Which would be better and why? Would it be 6 of one half a dozen of the other??

Either a wirespliced PGM-III or an 030 carded PGM-IV can make very good power.

If you've got a '28 the nice thing about the PGM-IV is that you get to keep the smartcard/digital dash/fancy steering lock etc.

The nice thing about the PGM-III is it doesn't cost a fortune.

But to fit the PGM-III to an mc28 and get the benefit you will need;

PGM-III
loom
ignition barrel (and key)
mc21 flywheel

you'll also need somewhere to mount the PGM-III and somewhere to fit the ignition barrel. Plus you'll either lose the steering lock (which you'll need to remove) or have to sort something else out to either use the mc21 mechanism or rig a wire to fire the mc28 steering lock release.

If it is for your track bike , forget about the ignition key and connect the wires . They have spocken about using an offset flywheel key if you can't get a 21 flywheel . Tyga sell those offset keys .

Yeah it is a track bike, and thought about havign a clip or switch under the seat somewhere (to be honest the bike sits with the card in the holder anyways!

Just one last question, the derestriction is that overcome with the reprogrammed card? Having read the forum a few times it seems as though you can wire splice to accept another card but it doesn;t talk about unrestricting the ignition timing like it does the MC21?

Or am i on crazy pills?

All the mc28's electronic restriction is in the card.
An 030 card with either a wirespliced or HRC loom sets the timing as HRC wanted it for that card. There's nothing else to do, you can't chop wires around and alter things. That's why there were 4 commercially available cards and several others not sold to the public at all.

If its a track bike and you stick with the PGM-IV you may as well get the HRC loom, they aren't massive money. That makes the kill switch a power switch and lets you leave the card properly in it's slot all the time, not pulled half out to turn the ignition off.

If you go to the PGM-III you could get an HRC loom and derestrctor box though they are quite a lot of money. Make sure you get both bits!
