Workshop manual states to use Honda Ultra 2 Super or Honda Ultra GP2 oil. Is this available from my local Honda dealer? Will Golden Spectro be OK? Are there other types/brands used successfully? Thanks for your patience. I am new to 2-stroke street bikes.
Generally the best quality full synthetic oil is best - I use Motul 710, others have their own preference (& I'm not sure which brands would be available easily in the US). Do you know what the previous owner used?
Make sure it is recomended for your setup - ie if the bike is stock with the injector pump (don't use a premix type oil, it'll be way too thick for the oil pump). Also mixing two stroke oils in the oil tank isn't recommended either.
Honda 2-stroke injector oil probably isn't a big seller in the US since Honda really never brought any high performance 2-stroke street bikes into the US.
You can use other high quality injector type 2-stroke oils as a replacement. As Middo mentioned, Motul makes a good oil.
None of the bike shops around here carry anything beyond the normal stuff. The local bike shop used to have something called Bean Oil but I don't think they don't carry it anymore. It smelled great and didn't get everything funky like most non-synthetics usually do. I ran it in my 350 Odyssey (man I miss that buggy).
For the NSR, I special ordered my oil through Redline in CA and got Castrol TTS for the injected bike. It's expensive, but we're talking about Hondas so there's no excuse for being cheap.
You might want to drain the oil that's already in the oil tank - it isn't a good idea to mix oils, particularly synthetics with mineral based oils. A good practice is to change all the fluids on a new bike anyway, so that way you know that they are all the correct type and quantities.
TTS is fine, and coming from Castrol, should be fairly easy to find.
Castrol make an even higher grade 2 stroke oil now too. I wil try some when i get through my remaining 2lt of TTS _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
I back TTS all the way. 80xer, if you are looking at castor oil be really careful, any cop who knows 2t's will pull you over in a second. It's banned on our roads.
Really ? I didn't know that. I have run Shell castor oil in it before. Was my favourite, but too expensive now. I was getting it for free as my brother used to race karts.
How come its illegal ? A 2 stroke will never pass 2010 emission laws anyway, must just be another way the law makes a big deal over nothing. _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
I'm not too sure on the exact reason, but I think it causes cancer or something like that which makes it illegal for passenger vehicles. My mate uses it for kart racing too. He has been racing for over 10 years and wouldn't use anything else. Apparently A-747 is good too but is illegal also. I'm happy with TTS I use it in my bike, pocket bike, wipper snipper and chainsaw.
gee.. i had never came across such knowledge @_@... 2T oils being illegal seems so wrong... in singapore you can use all sorts of 2T and they'll sitll be just 2T o.o... e.g 747 though expensive but still worthwhile for performance ..
cangus~ im curious as Penzzoil produces 2T lubricants as well, they're available in Malaysia but have no idea if its being sold in US
