NSR Gatherings

Sun May 16, 2010 10:22 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

As I'm sure you've all read, the Import bash wasn't as well attended as Andy and Stephen wanted or needed.

The big question is why not?

Money?

Location?

Track choice?

What would make more of you guys come to a gathering?

Tick your top one out of the options above, and add comments in your replies.

I fancy coming along but the last venue was too far away for me. I like track time, a beer and talking to folks about two strokes (and where to get spare parts). Somewher in the middle (Mallory/Cadwell/Oulton) would be good for me - but maybe not for others?

I drove to Llandow from Leeds. For a one off / annual type event like this the distance was not a deal breaker, but it did require 2 days holiday off work (which could be a problem for people).

I would have come if I could, timing was just bad for me.

I think Llandow is a great little track and have been to the previous two NSR-world meetings there. It would be good to have a more central UK track though so that its easier for more people to attend.

I also attended the SATT track day last year with Rich and Fontyyy and a couple of other NSR-world members (I think there must have been about 8 NSRs present in total), this was another great track day which was pretty much all two strokes.

I googled the centre of england (just north of Banbury) and it's not that far away from The Shoulder of Mutton.

I suppose track days depend on who's organising it. It might be easier to combine with other 2T forums to get larger numbers

Having a trackday, dyno and rideout on the same w/e all the activies would need to be fairly close to each other.

For a North / South divide. Northern Riders are more likely to go to Staffordshire or the Lotherton Hall up near Leeds

Beaulieu is holding a Ride-in Day on Sun 27th June. Maybe Jeff can dig out the NSR World tent again!

I would have loved to go to the dyno day but couldn't afford to get to the track and pay to get round then drive to plymouth. That said its cheaper than a days dyno elsewhere as it was FREE! I had no excuse, as for the rideout that would have been nice but we broke the 14 bike record at the track and alot of us dont ride road legal vehicles anyway.

I think it would be nice to get everyone at the campsite the night before for a rideout and BBQ then do the trackday. A dyno day could be a paid for event completely seperate....its the knowledge of others present thats invaluable.

I would of loved to get my bike back on the track but due to work and also a bank holiday [family pressures] it made it impossible. The dyno day i went to last year was excellent and a bargain and i got to meet a few people.

The SATT day last year was also an excelllent event apart from my motor going bang!

Seeing as i live in Rugby which is pretty much the centre of the country travelling time is not an issue. I reguarly go to" The Shoulder of Mutton" on the last sunday in the month and it makes an excellent event. We even have a few decent roads around here but Warwickshire council seem to think all roads should be 50mph!!!!

Having done some trawling of the various trackdays available for bikes, the options for weekends are pretty rare - most circuits have racing on obviously.

Would something like this be of interest?

Saturday 12th June evening at Cadwell

Too little time for the travel time getting there perhaps?

The whole point for us organising the event is for a number of reasons, which seem to get missed every time by so many...

1. Renting a track is bloody expensive at the best of times, let alone at a weekend, and especially when talking about somewhere premium like Cadwell, Mallory, or Donington etc.!

2. We try to make a whole weekend of it to make it worthwhile attending.

3. Llandow is chosen (a) for it's price, and (b) because it's a good stop-off for anyone travelling from further north, as we appreciate Plymouth is an awful long way for many.

What we don't get is why people can't understand that somewhere like Cadwell is an 8 hour drive for us! EVERYONE and their mother will go to somewhere near them, but once a year we try and arrange a WHOLE, and let's be honest, CHEAP weekend of activities. We're hardly going to be able to do that starting with a £12,000 track day 350 miles away! Rolling Eyes

We chose the bank holiday for two reasons. First was the weather... if the weather was rubbish we could possibly have had the ride-out on Monday, but also because if it had all gone to plan Sunday night would've been for travelling home with the Monday off to relax and wind down!

All points that sadly seem to get overlooked time and time again! Confused

8 hours lmao....it would only take you 6 if you drove to Nottingham first!!!

Anyhooooo for me it would just be a central get together just so we can talk bikes, that's all it is for me not interested in who's got the most power and my bike runs fine for me fora road bike and I have a trackbike which is not an nsr for track shinanigans.

I appreciate the amount of effort involved in trying to organise an NSR get together as I arranged the first nsr-world get together way back years ago at cadwell and there we a total of 5 a record held for a while lol.

I think it would be better to keep the track day at Llandow, lower cost is always going to be important as very high numbers can never be guaranteed. Being in Leeds I'm about the furthest away and the distance really isn't a complete obstacle, its about a 4.5 hour drive.

Some of the guys up North could get organised and hire a van / share the driving.

The campsite next door is very handy. Also, it may be possible to block book a local hotel in Llantwit Major or similar. The place I stayed at was £50 per night, and I was one of only 3 guests! If we said we'd fill the hotel for the night before or after, I reckon you could ask for a serious discount, maybe £30 per night, which is hardly more than the campsite and there's cold beer on tap!

And to get numbers up and costs down, I personally wouldn't be against 400s being on track Razz

And there are so many other track days all over the country on such a regular basis, including SATT at Cadwell, there is no reason why other 'regional' gatherings couldn't be arranged as well.
