Need help PGM4 problem

Tue Aug 03, 2010 8:00 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, everyone.

I'm new here, and own a be-loved PGM4.
I know it not nice to ask it but just need some indication before i send my bike to the work shop for repair.

Last two day, i startup my bike after 2 week of sleeping due to weather issuse. After warm up the bike a bit, i switch it off and do some clean up. After cleaning up, i can't start the bike anymore.

This is what happen; As i put in the CD-card (Card Key) there's nothing, no light, no red and yellow LED light, nothing, like there no supply to the system. Have ask a friend, he told me to check supply at two wire connected to the CDI, but before that check fuse and battery if it good. I took out the battery for a full charge and check all fuse which were good.
Put back the battery and measure the two wire connected to the CDI at the connector, no reading (with a multimeter).
I wonder should there be DC voltage at the two wire going in the CDI, even if the key is out. Can anyone tell me what is the color of the wire just to confirm i'm measuring the correct one.

Thank you very much.

Any chance you could tell us what voltage you are getting out of the battery? Mine sits at about 12.8V when the bike is off, and that's a good reading. I'd have thought that if you are getting nothing coming up after putting in the card then it's either the wrong card (unlikely in your situation), battery voltage too low, a blown fuse, or a bad connection somewhere. You said that it stopped after you gave it a clean, so maybe you bumped or broke something while you were cleaning?

You might find looking at a wiring diagram helpful in diagnosing your problem http://www.dreamgate.ne.jp/nsr/service%20manual/wiringdia/diagram1.jpg

Cheers
Tom

Hi Major_tom, thank you for your reply.

I have the battery fully charge with a reading of 12.6 VDC.
All the fuse have check and it good.
It just that i don't have a clear voltage reading at card in switch (R/B). If i'm not wrong, i should have a reading of 12 VDC at both wire when card in and one wire when card is out.
I believe as what you write, i may have bump to something, but before i go further i need to comfirm should there be a 12 VDC at the wire.

Thank for the diagram. After study through, i think it should have a 12 VDC at wire (R/B), correct me if i'm wrong.

Thank you.

For the R/B wire for the card switch, it should battery voltage from the harness side.

if you dont' have voltage, follow the wire harness back to fuse/battery and check for short.

This is based on the details of chapter 18 of the MC28 workshop manual.
