Hi I have a mc18 . payed a guy (cowboy) 7months later. Comes back with crack so small in transmission ,leaks bad. took ages to find , can this be welded, or is it an alloy that can be welded.Do i need a whole new case?
Just out of curiosity, would the case suffer any distortion from welding? Would it have to be clamped flat along it's mating surface during the heating/cooling cycle?
I'm contemplating having some cases modified, and was just thinking of any possible implications.
I wouldn't weld anywhere near a bearing surface or mating surface. It can probably be done with ease but I don't know. When tig welding stainless the parent metal pulls quite hard. Aluminium may be different but I'm not too sure, best ask a metallurgist or very competent welder.
Ive seen a Nissan Primera gear box welded up that hit a brick. It had a decent chuck broken out of it.
Im sure a professional would able to weld it up no problems. There is a fella up here in bris that welded my chassis when it cracked. I can send you his details if you like. _________________ Winning isn't everything, but loosing isn't anything
