Is it a MC21 Limited Edition Rothmans?

Wed Oct 13, 2010 2:51 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Greetings,

I have been lurking around this site for a while and in the market for an NSR for about a year, waiting for the right one. I may have just found the bike I want , and would like to confirm if my suspicions are true.

It appears to be a '92 MC21 Rothmans Special with 6,104 kms, which according to the history section, is one of only 1500 released. How can I confirm if this is true? Is there a vin listing for these bike?

I plan on getting the bike regardless, if the guy will take my offer. I would like to know though, because this will effect my plans with the bike. If it is an original, I will restore it to original condition. If not, I plan on putting some tyga fairings, and possibly moving away from the Rothmans color scheme.

Thanks for keeping up a great site with lots of useful info.

Long live the NSR!!

Justin from Okinawa

P.S. Here is a pic of it, if it helps, for those of you who know what to look for. Thanks for the help!

A start is it has magtek wheels . Does it have a dry clutch, adjustable front suspension . A resivor for the rear shock on the right hand side between the frame and the fairing ? To know if it`s a sp engine the barrels should be stamped L and a number . On the subframe there is a sticker it should have R8N on it which is the 92 rothmans .
If it is I would leave it with standard fairings and colours just tidy it up it looks good already
Hope this helps you out

It does have a dry clutch and it does have adjustable front and rear suspension. I will go by the shop and look for the R8N on the subframe.
As I am new to the NSR, what do I need to do to get to the barrels to look the for the "L" stamped on them?

Thanks for the help.

Check for signs of crash repair and repainting. It should have a black "Honda" sticker on a yellow background above the headlight (it's still available new OEM, but some of the others aren't).

Looks like a really nice bike. I don't know why you would want to change the colour or move away from the standard fairings?

How do I order new OEM fairings from Honda? I have done some searching but come up with nothing.

In the UK you can just go into a Honda dealer and order them by part number.

David Silver Spares seem to have stock or be able to get parts that should be no longer available, they're probably worth giving a call even if you're in Japan.

As GrantA says, why on Earth would you want to change it?! Rothmans is by far the most sought after replica, and many are seeing the merrits of not only the OEM styling, but also OEM panels these days. If nothing else, OEM panels fit better than an epyleptic in a disco!!

The more stock-looking with OEM panels, the more it is worth, discreet performance enhancements aside.

I can understand changing something shabby, or a second bike "for something different", but from the photo supplied it looks like it needs so little to make it look excellent again.
